Being an idiot in that situation is true, but in your example is also true that the item he was buying has gone up 50% in price. It doesn't matter that the item is extravagant, it still has gone up significantly. That's pretty much across the board with food.

Someone answered this for me. It's just that it's open source. If that matters to you, there you go.

Ah, gotcha. Makes sense.

Is there anything about Aegis that makes it better than Authy? Just looking at the page for Aegis, I'm not seeing a lot of difference. And it being Android only limits it.

Did people call RCS open source? I'm not a huge follower of the standard, but I don't think I ever heard that said. In fact, I've heard people complain about not just the proprietary encryption but lack of E2E and carrier/Google control.

Its only advantages are that it is better than SMS and supported by the carriers, Google and Apple sometime this year.

It's a shitty standard but given how shitty SMS is, I'm willing to hold my nose and jump in.

Not only that but reddit isn’t allowing you to make new accounts as of today, without having a Gmail account first.

What? So you can't use any other email provider but Google to sign up for a Reddit account?

EDIT: I actually don't think this is correct. I just went to the sign up page and it does have buttons to create an account using Google or Apple OAuth (I assume) but there is a field under those two buttons for just any email. Put in my Outlook.com email and it accepted it and went to the next page where I could create my user name and password.

The very idea is absurd. It is so counter productive to the idea of rehabilitation. The prisons themselves say they aren't a significant revenue stream. Trying to offset the cost of a societal need by charging fees to prisons doesn't even make any sense. And the companies that are tasked with collecting this debt get 70% of what they collect which means that even the argument about offsetting the state's cost doesn't make sense.

It's profit seeking, counter productive cruelty and that's it. Just shameful.

That's a principled stance.

You need good software to make the most out of good hardware, but I think our definition of good is different. For software, as long as the software doesn't get in the way of launching the app you want, most normies will consider that good. It doesn't matter that Android is bloated and inefficient if the user can tap the Instagram or Facebook icon and have that open up without user perceptible delay.

The average person is remarkably able to put up with shit. Look at the experience on smart TVs for example. The vast majority of people are fine with the absolutely shitty experience as long as they can open up Netflix.

Use what you like. Just like Windows, macOS and Linux for the vast majority of people, all these OSes are, are platforms to display apps and webpages. They all have sanded off most of the rough edges meaning that unless you have specific niche needs/wants, you'll just use what is familar and be happy.

Life is too short to have deep feelings about an OS.

Yeah, I can't imagine what about Graphene would make that big of a difference. Smart phones and slabs of glass with apps on them. There's very little that truly impacts the experience after you get past specs.

It's why I cancelled last year. I got it for free through my FIOS Internet connection for a few years, but after that went away I paid for a year. But the price increase was just not worth the like 2 shows and maybe one movie that I watched on it a year.
