Definitely never realized those were rated badly, huh

I feel like it has to be due to people not liking the religion twist and Mila Kunis, right? I feel like it was easily 60% or up

Idk if I'd go that far by Crystal Skull was definitely the answer I was thinking of. Had a few parts that really strained the audience, sure, but overall a descent film imo

Getting dumb and dumber

Could’ve done without yet another train fight, and the chase sequences might’ve been cut down a bit

This is exactly how I felt - like the opening sequence was too long for what it contributed, and that the chase sequences could have been cut down. Sounds like we just disagree on the overall impact due to those aspects

Wait I have one and I'm 27 now, should I be worried?

Yeah look at how every single conversation about supporting small businesses went on reddit. Users would rage day and night about the ills of megacorporations. But if you got them talking about supporting small business they'd come out of the woodwork to tell you they're not paying a higher price. And with things being as tight as they are right now, that's a logical conclusion. But it just goes to show that even if you sit someone down and explain to them that X thing they say they support absolutely cannot compete with the price of Y thing they say they hate - they will still side with their pocketbook 9/10 times

I don't think you realize how incredibly short 10 years is in terms of investment recuperation. That's not realistic unless you're talking about abandoning capitalism all together, at which point the particulars of IP law are irrelevant

Individuals and small companies would never be able to compete with the resources of someone like Amazon

I don't have an answer to your actual question other than self-hosting. But, I doubt you'd ever get a "firehose of trash" on your main feed. Mainly because the trashy instances aren't that populous, so I doubt their posts would be active or hot enough to float to the top. But I could be wrong.

You could always go directly to the instance you want to read and lurk. Unless you make an account you won't be able to comment, but you'll be able to get your firehose of trash

Edit: Just be mindful of how much you consume, you'd be surprised how easily hate can invade your mind. To this day I still have to self-censor every now and then thanks to the hateful rhetoric I grew up around, even though I'm long past it

Every year I get a little bit happier to live in a major metro area in Indiana so that I dodge the majority experience of the state.

But man it still doesn't help me feel better about my state. I wish rural Hoosiers would wake up and realize they could have it better

First of all, let me say that while the admins can do what they want, I think it's pretty unfortunate that beehaw is defederating from .world and shitjustworks. I don't want to see the fediverse fracture, I want it to encourage conversation with others.

But, beehaw has done what they've done. And I must say it's annoying to be able to see their posts and comments and not engage with them. Plus, I could see their large, still visible communities taking away from ours without people realizing their own posts and comments aren't working.

So will .world be defederating from beehaw? I don't have a horse in the race, I'm jw

About Biblical Criticism (self.biblicalstudies)
submitted 2 years ago by DudePluto to c/biblicalstudies

Regarding the term "Biblical criticism," this phrase is often used as shorthand for academic study of the Bible (with some justification, I guess). And yet I think there may be some unfortunate misunderstandings in what is meant by "criticism" here, as well as with some of the general assumptions of what exactly is being done by "Biblical critics."

Used here, "criticism" certainly does not build on the common meaning of 'criticize' - that is, "to find fault with." For example, Harper's Bible Dictionary defines Biblical criticism as "study and investigation of biblical writings that seeks to make discerning judgments about these writings." A discerning judgment is, needless to say, quite different than "finding fault with."

Even though Biblical criticism encompasses many different subfields, some of which are compatible with "traditional" belief, others aren't so compatible - because Biblical criticism is ultimately based on the principles of naturalism, (whereas, obviously, religious belief isn't).

If you wish to continue, read the responses to Does an academic reading of the Bible erode other forms of reading? If you still desire to continue, then belay on.

Okay, where do I start?

You might consider the following:

Online Materials

Books

Podcasts

But my beliefs are the oldest and truest, right?

Welcome to worldbuilding your one-stop shop for all your fictional worlds. Whether it's for a D&D campaign, book you're writing, or a favorite hobby, if you're worldbuilding you're welcome here.

We're technically three years old as a community. However, we recently completely changed our moderation team and have begun to flourish. So, we're new in spirit.

As you can see, lemmy.ml/c/[email protected] is a lemmy.ml community, so we're experiencing some federation issues with all the posts being visible between the home instance and lemmy.world . However, I believe those issues will soon be resolved and we can continue business as usual.

Come check us out :)

I recently migrated from lemmy.ml to lemmy.world to help with decentralizing and server load. I've noticed that a community I moderate, c/[email protected], is not updating: one of the mods I added isn't showing up on the sidebar, and a mod I removed is showing up. Plus, if I visit my community from lemmy.ml instead of lemmy.world, I see posts that aren't showing up on lemmy.world.

Is there a workaround for this?

Is there a way I can fix this?

I've been in a bit of a rut lately as my progress on my world's history is crawling along. I like what I've added, but it seems to come at one detail a day.

When you're feeling stuck or blocked, what's your go-to method to fix it?
