The instance at exploding-heads.com got defederated from by a lot of instances and among them the largest one lemmy.world
It happened due to them allowing hatespeech like "tranny faggot". Top post now is complaining about how the rest is sensitive libs and in the same breath call "Joe Biden is a pedo". They're throwing a tantrum about how they're getting cancelled because they can't smell the shit under their own shoe.
Yeah well it's really much easier to call someone a Nazi as an umbrella term for such indivuals rather than some scientific term no one really understands. It's kinda actually taking from the playbook they use themselves: associate something with a negative connotation.
You always have to put it into perspective. The reaction when beehaw defederated from this instance was also not met with elation here but most just were dissapointed and I did not read any slurs or colored swearing insults.
Edit: I went over to see what the fuss is about. And the first thing I see is "tranny faggot" and justification for "joe biden is a pedo". Lmfao really? Nothing lost by defederating from that such a cesspool.
I am also trying out Liftoff
The UI and design looks nice but the chunky 12 fps scrolling is a bit annoying. I hope it's gonna be better.
I also don't understand the need for safety bubbles especially on the platform lemmy which is pretty outspoken and overwhelmingly leftist. These issues should be visible to the general public to make them aware, not segregated in their own vicinity where no one else is allowed and will lead to hyperfixation and very likely discriminatory viwepoints and discussions.
I have taken a look at communities like twoXchromosomes, childfree and incel and the language they use sometimes is eerily similar to nazis and faschists. Tribalism develops really fast and it is NOT a good thing. Too many times I've read stuff like "today I completely destroyed ". In the case of twoX it was men, in incels it was women and in childfree it was moms. These communities were formed out of a legitimate point of unacceptance and ignorance by the average person but longtime segregation effects are starting to take hold. The LGBT+ is also starting to show these effects and I don't really like it tbh. I've honestly been denied entrance to publicly advertised events and happenings just because I wasn't "gay" or "queer". This will not foster acceptance. Especially not in a space where no one cares or knows what you are. I mean programming is about the most equalizing activity ever. Job environments and work teams are still suffering from ignorance but the programming itself is equal and especially online you should not segregate the community. Imo.
I mean was that really bad? I heard slashdot died when it tried to change their system?
I'd also add a (funny/informative/opinion) vote button aswell. These spaces can become noise drowners where information can be drowned by repeated jokes that get upvoted to the top. Too many times I've seen conversations like "Does this mean I can do A or B? - Yes."
Itgets really exhausting. Having an easy filter to skip the noise would be great.
While that's great and all, the fractured fediverse will not take off if there's not a comfortable nexus for the average user. It's all about ease of access.
You can use the website for the meantime. It's fairly responsively designed.
Same for me. The only thing beehaw now has that interests me is the technology community, which seems fairly active. Other than that it died for me there. For what? Because they couldn't deal with a few trolls? And they want their own walled garden for site applications?
Sounds pretty useless tbh. Not to shit on the developper but a lot of these spaces are basically trying to shut themselves off. Invite only will kill your site. The reason reddit got big was because it is open to anyone. It's also the reason why lemmy.world is having way more growth than pretty much any other instance.
Beehaw was easily the behemoth before they decided to defederate from lemmy.world and them being invite only is quickly turning out to hamper them. Tildes is even worse because they don't even federate
Now pretty much only technology is worth checking from beehaw if even.
Do image downloads work? I noticed that doesn't work on Liftoff (also done with Flutter)
