I assume:

  • “wasted” money not spent to directly benefit us citizens
  • there always seems to be racism at the core
  • they think they can get away with it - who will speak for the suffering millions in developing countries
  • Trump doesnt understand concepts like influence, soft power, long term thinking, morality

This is “free money” where they can claim their “$2T” in savings

You also usually need “standing” to sue. If you’re personally affected, you have standing. If you’re a state or local government and have your government or citizens affected, you have standing. Who has standing here?

The human suffering cost is completely amoral and the influence cost on the us should be considered treason, but that doesn’t mean there’s someone who can sue to fix it

Previously most Congresses would act to preserve their constitutional authority, even versus an executive from the same party and whose goals they align with. Usually people act in their own self-interest. Usually a politician guards his power. Somehow this self-preservation or self-interest is gone. Somehow they also are surprised that the face-eating leopard is feasting on their carcasses

It’s up to congress, but they’re choosing to get their faces eaten

Who’s going to prison from Musks criminal organization for unauthorized access to confidential information? Where are whatever parts of the government that are supposed to be securing that?

I’m sure the entire problem is government over-regulation. If we fire half the cdc and not allow them to use the word “gender”, they won’t be ble to enforce regulations and the price will come down

5-6, and eggs aren’t expensive yet. I guess wherever we get eggs from don’t have avian flu yet …. Although it’s here in the wild

I have a bowl of cereal (yogurt and fruit) during the week, but usually make something with eggs on the weekend.

Maybe I assumed too much context ….

It’s one of ~~two~~ three things:

Bully mentality. “Beating people up means I’m strong.”

Kompromat. “Putin said I have to beat people up or he will ruin me, and I know what he has on me.”

  • narcissism /instant gratification. If it doesn’t directly benefit me, now, then I don’t care

It’s just wrong for USA too. There’s lots of reasons to rename things but jingoism is not a valid one

Maybe eat less fat so the poop will sink. It goes under water so it doesn’t stink. It doesn’t plop against the porcelain so nothing sticks

American toilet is best because in the typical poop there’s less stink, less mess, toilet doesn’t need to be cleaned ….. except for those days where you dump a monster load

I don’t even know about corporate control here but we’re only going to get “research” that “aligns with policy”, rather than quantifying facts

Be careful about convention, with no explicit rules. We also haven’t usually acted this way either but now that someone challenged every moral precept we’re finding nothing enforced it

Instant gratification. More money and power for me now, don’t care otherwise

I just read a great article about a company wanting to do Circadian lighting on the International Space Station! It was very inspiring, so now I want to look into automating that. Up until now, my priority has been smart switches (both Zigbee and Z-Wave) and voice control, but I also have an automation to dim when it’s bed time.

Can anyone compare Circadian vs “dim to warm”, by how happy you are with results, cost, complexity? I guess I’d have to get all new bulbs either way, but I’d have to rewire and reconfigure switches for smart bulbs to do Circadian and I’d have to actively automate, vs “dim to warm” would just do it

New user here, yes I’m looking for alternatives to Reddit …

I created an account on lemmy.world, subscribed to a couple communities, and even replied to a post. So far, so good.

However, it keeps showing me as not logged in. The weird thing is I still have my subscribed communities, but am not logged in. Every once in a while when I try something more than reading, I have to login again (then again, sometimes I don’t). For example, by the time I read a bunch of posts in a community to decide whether I want to subscribe, I sometimes need to login again to subscribe

I’m browsing lemmy.world from Safari on iPad, and should have mostly default settings. Can anyone help with explaining or fixing this behavior? It’s really annoying.
