When I played alpha there was very little, if any, satire. The overblown grimderp which is sometimes funny in moderate doses gets tiresome after a dozen or two hours of playing. The early version of RT made the same mistale most of 40k makes - failing to address the question "if it's all so hopelessly grim and brutal what keeps people living?" In the broader 40k it is not a big problem because we focus on warfare. RT necessarily explores areas and themes closer to the mundane and I felt it did not succeed. But I'd be glad to be proven othrewise in the full game.
