Metroidvania is a subgenre of video games focused on guided non-linearity and utility-gated exploration. The term, popularized by video game critic Jeremy Parish, is a portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania.

This is a cloned community from Reddit. I intend to hand over mod support to the original mods should they choose to migrate to Lemmy.

Warning, potential spoiler for games you might want to play

Mine is flash-shift from Metroid dread. It's a quick dash to the left or right. I just love how snappy and smooth it is, plus the sound is very satisfying

Mine is Bash from Ori and the Blind Forest. Easily the most versatile movement mechanic that doubles as an offensive/defensive ability in combat (also just looks cool kicking projectiles back at enemies).

Not game specific but for some reason I just love double jumps in any game.
