In October, Unity CEO John Riccitiello retired, and the company appointed former IBM president Jim Whitehurst as interim CEO

Seriously if I were an employee and I heard that some cunt from IBM has been appointed to the board I would spruce up my CV straight away. There's only one way this ends. Asset stripping and cuts. Innovation gone, licensing increases, off shore take over of jobs. It's the IBM playbook.

"Wow that backwards dinosaur really fucked up our company. Let's hire another backwards dinosaur to replace him!"

Fucking brilliant.

Free the engine source code if you intend to 'reset' the mistrust of every dev.

I can get behind this.

It won’t happen, but I can dream, Harold!

CEO makes terrible decision -> 265 employees get fired.

Cause. Effect. And yet it never adds up.

Only the beginning. Their absurd attempt at a licensing money-grab backfired so badly, they couldn't have screwed themselves over any worse if they'd just put it a statement saying, "Stop using Unity. Unreal is so much better!"

Padme: From the C-suite, right?

Well well well if it isn’t the cows coming home to roost 🐄

So I know the expression is "chickens" are you referencing something specific with "cows?"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Nah I was just amused because it would make sense if it was the crows coming home to roost, but drop one r and the whole thing goes to shit

The SEC should unironically look into their ex CEO Riccitiello and their c-suite, but they won’t.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Videogame software provider Unity Software (U.N) will eliminate 265 jobs or 3.8% of its global workforce and end an agreement with a digital video effects company founded by the "Lord of the Rings" director as part of a "reset," the company said on Tuesday.

The move follows a tumultuous period for the San Francisco-based company, which makes a software toolkit used by many videogame developers including the maker of the popular "Pokemon Go" mobile game.

Following a developer revolt and a steep dropoff in share price, the company revamped the new fees.

In October, Unity CEO John Riccitiello retired, and the company appointed former IBM president Jim Whitehurst as interim CEO and president and Sequoia Capital partner Roelof Botha as board chairman.

Tuesday's announcement includes termination of the professional services piece of an agreement Unity struck with movie director Peter Jackson's visual effects company Weta FX in 2021 after Unity purchased the technology and engineering division of Weta FX.

As a result, 265 employees whose jobs are related to the agreement will be laid off, the company said.
