Allies of Keir Starmer claim he has the backing of Labour’s grassroots over his stance on sex- and gender-based rights after a new poll of members suggested they support the party’s updated position on the issue.

The party shifted its stance in the summer, abandoning its support for self-identification – which would allow people to legally change gender without a medical diagnosis. It announced the move alongside support for making the process of obtaining a gender recognition certificate far simpler and less invasive, as well as continuing to ensure some single-sex services and places could only be accessed by biological women.

While the issue remains a controversial one within the party, Labour Together, a group closely associated with Starmer, said a new YouGov poll of Labour members it commissioned showed broad support for the leadership’s new line.

continuing to ensure some single-sex services and places could only be accessed by biological women.

Can we talk about how stupid the phrase 'biological women' is? Like, are trans women robots or something? And why is it put in unchallenged while gender dysphoria gets scare quotes?

Also, it's so depressing that something Theresa May proposed has become too left-wing of a policy for Starmer and his Labour Party.

Can we talk about how stupid the phrase ‘biological women’ is?

If international sporting bodies can't come up with a working definition of what is a woman, despite all the incentive, resources and access to expert advice, then politicians are always going to try and hand-wave this away.

Trans women are biological men. They do or did produce small gametes if healthy because they heave XY chromosomes. Biological women do or did produce large gametes if healthy because they have XX chromosomes.

That's why you use the phrase biological women and biological men. Society can be respectful and let them dress and live as normally as they can but they are men and shouldn't be allowed in biological women's spaces.

Well what other term would you suggest to specify a female-born woman with two x chromosomes?

Cis woman? It does include some intersex people, but honestly when do you need to know someone's chromosome makeup in everyday life?

Unscientific transphobic drivel.

I love how whenever trans issues come up, it's always this "What is a woman?" "Biological woman" "single sex spaces" bs. Meanwhile, the average trans person is stuck waiting literally three fucking years to access an initial appointment at a gender clinic, with sweet fuck all being done about it.

Yes, Labour are the new tories and just courted that vote from tory voters who feel abandoned by the current tory party, we know. We don't have to dress it up

This is pretty much also Starmer's Brexit policy.

Starmer: Hello sir what is your stance on Brexit?

Voter: Too many of them, hurr durr, this is Ang-land!

Starmer: Yes, I agree.

Starmer: Hello sir what is your stance on Brexit?

Voter 2: Where will I holiday now? Have you seen the price of Brie these days? Fucking Brexit.

Starmer: Yes it's shocking.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Allies of Keir Starmer claim he has the backing of Labour’s grassroots over his stance on sex- and gender-based rights after a new poll of members suggested they support the party’s updated position on the issue.

The party shifted its stance in the summer, abandoning its support for self-identification – which would allow people to legally change gender without a medical diagnosis.

It announced the move alongside support for making the process of obtaining a gender recognition certificate far simpler and less invasive, as well as continuing to ensure some single-sex services and places could only be accessed by biological women.

In January this year, another poll found the public supported the continued involvement of doctors in the process to legally change gender: 58% backed the idea, while 30% opposed.

Senior Labour figures believe the Tories will attempt to use trans rights as a “culture war” topic during next year’s general election campaign.

They hope the shift over the summer will help the party deal with the issue during the campaign, though they expect Starmer and his shadow team to be repeatedly asked about their views on trans rights.

The original article contains 452 words, the summary contains 189 words. Saved 58%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

when the tory voters all go back to the tories and the media turns on starmer once he's in power, what is he going to do after he got rid of anyone even remotely left in labour?

if he even gets a majority next election, i'd wager his government lasts less than a year before it collapses at which point the blue tories will get back in and be even more draconian and right wing
