Just remember that some of us have to plunge the cutlass into our wallets so that others may sail. Seed, please.

I'm very close to get a global ratio on qbittorrent of 5, seeing number go up really motivates me to continue contributing

Imagine if it was crowdfunded? It's like account sharing with extra steps.

The recent South Park movies aren't available in the Netherlands. I guess the exclusive streaming service is a pirate's life then.

I live in the US, but there's a lot of media I'd like to watch that isn't available in the US. Piracy is literally my only option, because I'm not given legal ways to consume that content.

Not all VPNs are equal. Also, even with a good VPN, you still can have your real area leaking via your Real Time Clock.

Honestly, just pirating is a lot fucking easier than paying for attempts at multiple VPNs just to see if I can make an account at the BBC and watch iPlayer. I've failed at that more times than I've succeeded.

Finally, VPNs are only legal in the sense that the only thing the BBC can do is... deny you access to their content. Similar to Youtube and Ad Blockers. It's their content, they own it, and it's fair game for them to try to make people pay for it. Since the BBC is publicly funded, that means me making a BBC account to watch iPlayer via a VPN is probably breaking their "Terms of Service" which means they are legally allowed to remove my account at any time. Because I am effectively using the BBC without paying for it if I use a VPN.

It's legal, but it's still a TOS violation which can get you banned by a lot of services.

My Jellyfin server has become quite useful as I’ve unsubscribed from various services.

Did anyone else get the email that said Max is reducing its adfree tier to 2 screens instead of 3 and no more 4k? I just got it yesterday.

Cancelled.

Usenet is best net. Learn to use the arrs, Radarr, Sonarr, sabnzbd. Plex/jellyfin, one of many usenet providers like newsgroup ninja. Takes some time to set up, but fully automated once done.

I wanted to watch the original run of Fullmetal Alchemist again. It basically doesn't exist anymore.

Lots of people say Brotherhood is better. I get it. But it's just not the same to me

I love both and whenever I'm in a FMA mood I watch them together. The first anime does a fantastic job with things like mood, atmosphere, lightning and music, and throws some interesting ideas and concepts into the the narrative.

To anyone who enjoyed FMA but only watched Brotherhood, please do yourself a favor and watch the '03 anime.

I had been steadily pirating for a while but I kept my satellite package for sports. They recently upped the price by $10 which was enough to finally push me get one of those non sanctioned IPTV subscriptions. I am paying about a tenth of the cost now. I wish I had switched sooner!

Do you need a VPN just to watch? I always use a VPN if I'm seeding torrents from my PC, but don't really want to connect my TV to a VPN.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

I don't but I am in Canada. I know pirating laws are bit different than in the states

In a better world, content would cost the same to all streaming services, all content would be available everywhere, and competition between services would be based on price and quality of service. You'd subscribe to one and get everything.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago

It should be like music. You can sign up for basically any service (Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, etc) and generally hear any song. It would be ridiculous if each record label or whatever had its own streaming service, so why are TV & movies different?

You could say the same thing about video games
