I'm trying to keep up with the times, but I'm an over the hill social worker. I signed up for lemm.ee and linked it to the app Jerboa. Now, however, I'm supposed to tell the Admin that server 0.17.4 is too low. Who is the Admin? How do I fix it?

Hey, 0.18 was released a bit prematurely and has a lot of serious flaws. I am waiting for the minor update - 0.18.1 - which is nearing completion and will address most of the problems. Basically, lemm.ee will be skipping 0.18, sorry about that!

I think you're the person that makes this space possible, so thanks for answering, and for making all of this. Sincerely.

When you say "nearing completion" is that days weeks or months? I am not trying to rush you, I'm just trying to understand.

Let me preface this by saying that I have no influence in the matter of when releases are made, but looking at the current state of development, I am guessing it will be late this week or early next week.

I tried just now to donate to your cause; your work is meaningful. However, I had to give up after 5 attempts. I've never had to work so hard to send money, and still I failed. This whole tjing has me doubting myself. Have I just crossed the boomer devide and there's no help for me?

No, you're still trying to learn and asking for help in understanding even when you're seemingly intimidated by something new. With that kind of thinking/attitude, there is no being beyond help. People like you are what makes helping people navigating technology rewarding even in cases where slow progress might at times be frustrating to inexperienced "teachers".🥰 Plus you're appreciative, that's always a big plus.

I appreciate that! Can you tell me what in particular failed? Maybe it's something I can improve for the future

I'm grateful for you.

The 0.0.35 Jerboa update breaks this instance (for the time being), but I've had good luck using Connect for Lemmy. I'm not able to filter posts or make replies on Jerboa but everything seems to be working as expected with Connect. Check it out!

Having the same issue, bump for visibility. Thanks for posting!!

Am I even posting in the right place?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes, this seems like to correct place to post when having technical issues. And if your post is better served elsewhere i'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.

A side note it seems things are evolving quite rapidly in all things regarding Lemmy at the moment. So expect some bumps and overall weirdness. There is a great getting started guide written by admin that i highly recommend reading through if you need or want to learn a bit more about Lemmy. Also this video seems to break things down quite good. Basically a How-to-Lemmy.

In the meantime you can try out different apps, Android now has a selection.

I recommend Connect for Lemmy, Summit and Liftoff. They are all on Google Play.

So there are many clients out there but thunder is by far the best. I have tested liftoff, jerboa and thunder.

Download Thunder from Fdroid or Github.

Not finding Thunder on F-Droid :-(

You have to add the izzydroid repo that @yoz was mentioning, then you can download it, I also have it installed, and it's great, I will use it until sync gets released :)

Try Droidify. Similar to F-droid. It's definitely in that one.

You have to add izzydroid repo to Fdroid. Or download droidify and enable izzydroid in it. Droidify is another client for Fdroid with a neat interface.

Install Jerboa 0.0.34, the previous version, and you're good. Please note development on apps and the backend is blazingly fast atm, but some bumps may happen.

Sadly that version (downloaded from F-Droid) is crashing on both my Moto G73 phone and my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 tablet. Latest version runs fine ... but doesn't work with lemm.ee of course. Sigh.

Exactly the other way around with my phone ;-) .35 instable, .34 sloooow but solid....

Patience, I think the devs will do overtime rn.
