Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Climate scientists were shit on so hard by conservatives, they started going along with their oppressors. For the past 40 years or so, they have understated their dire predictions instead of reporting the truth because the truth invited attacks from the right. This downplaying has only emboldened conservatives. So, here we are. On the brink of extinction because scientists were afraid to speak honestly in the face of conservative oppression.

When resources are extremely limited, and you must make very hard choices that affect your neighbors' lives, remember conservatives did this. And they mocked the normal people as they did this.

I mean I don't think that is fair. We aren't on the brink of extinction due to scientists downplaying the threat. We would likely be on the brink of extinction regardless of what the scientists did.

As usual. Standard conservative playbook.

Basically toddlers with parents that give in to every tantrum. They relentless scream, throw things, hit things or people until they get their way.

It's a depressing world when people can't look at the numbers and reach the obvious conclusions on their own. Instead we have to show them [sad scientist face]. But that tactic won't get through either since it leans on CEO's empathy, which as the rest of us know, doesn't exist.
