I love a normal F1 weekend, but this sprint shit ruins it. You get a half assed quali because they didn't get enough practice, then another half assed quali followed by a stupidly short race and only then you get some proper racing, if people aren't getting disqualified for breach of regulations due to not enough practice sessions.

The original F1 weekend format is perfect, why mess withit?!? (Yes, money, I'm aware)

Also the Friday quali session runs while a ton of people are at work, so it doesn’t get watched either

Yea I know they say they’re trying to drum up Friday viewership but… most of of the plebs are at work. Sorry F1 but I have to work to pay for YouTubeTV to watch you, that means the best I can do is record fridays events anti watch later. There’s no way I can watch qualifying live on Friday

Totally agree. The disqualifications that happened can be pretty much attributed to the minimal prep times teams were given.

Parc ferme on Friday is dumb as hell.

Agreed, let’s just end this sprint crap please

Good. Sprint races are beyond bullshit

That's not what he's saying though, he's saying no reverse grids, because he's got a front running car and is not as good on overtakes as another front running car. The current format scores Merc more points than a reverse grid would.

So sick of these sprints and potential changes to make them better. Just get rid of them. That'll make them better!

Imo if you do sprints, go all in and do something crazy like reverse grids. The way they are now it's just a short race. Where's the point in that?

4 viewing moments rather than 2

Carlos said it best, sprint race with reverse championship position grid and let them race

[–] MacPathfinder 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I’d double down on the reverse championship position grid and also have them race in the opposite direction so it is a completely different race for the drivers and fans.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

The opposite racing direction doesn't work. It was discussed for the COVID double races - all of the barrier entrances/exits dace the wrong way and can't easily be changed.

They also lack run off areas when running in reverse.

[–] R05 3 points 10 months ago

Amen to that

Sprint races started out as a sort of “heat” race to improve quali position. Now it is just pointless. I don’t get why they do it.

It's because it's additional races on the calendar, without the additional overhead cost of going to additional circuits.

More racing means more eyeballs, which means more money for F1.
