Unofficial Lemmy Community for all things related to T-Mobile US.

This Lemmy community is based on the r/tmobile subreddit.

Any moderator of r/tmobile that would like moderator access here feel free to send me a message.

Rules (currently copied from the T-Mobile subreddit):

  1. No doxxing

Do not post someone's personal information. Not only is this against the rules here, it's frowned upon lemmy-wide. Please don't reveal any information that can be used to track someone down in real life. It just simply isn't a nice thing to do. Examples might include the full name of any T-Mo employee who helped you, or something that could be used to put their job in jeopardy.

  1. Keep it cool

Simple. Just be excellent to each other. Don't get too heated, don't start tossing ad hominem attacks at people. Focus on the subject, not the person making the point. And if someone is legitimately trying to help you but you're not getting the answer you want, please don't lash out at people. We're all trying to help to the best of our abilities.

  1. Don't be negative

If you need help, please ask! If you're going to complain, make it a constructive complaint. We are all here to help. Posts that are made to bash T-Mobile/Sprint/AnyCarrier/Person/System etc will be removed.

Posts that are purely negative and/or do not promote further conversation will be removed.

  1. Be ethical

Do not be unethical. This includes trying to avoid tethering limitations, offering to bribe employees for device unlocks, or recommending things that break the T&Cs.

  1. Stay on-topic

The purpose of this lemmy community is to discuss all things T-Mobile. Try and focus on T-Mobile when you make your post. Non-T-Mobile posts are allowed if the goal is a discussion about T-Mobile. Direct links to other carrier's advertisements or press releases will likely be removed. Constructive criticism about T-Mobile is perfectly acceptable, but hate, memes, and pure bashing is not.

This is why I’m glad I buy my phones unlocked. If they try to raise my price, I’m moving on. Probably to Verizon, to start, but may start checking out some of the other options like Mint or GoogleFi.

I switched to Mint a few months ago from T-Mobile and saved so much money, plus Mint is just a reseller of T-Mobile so it's the same network. Unfortunately though Mint was bought out by T-Mobile so it's just a matter of time before they stop offering the same service at a fraction of the price.

You were able to port your number over with no issue?

As I recall they give you a sim card via mail and it has a temporary number associated with it and you can swap sims and use that temp number for a few days while you trial it. Then when you're ready install the mint app on your phone and follow the prompts, it will check compatibility with your phone and then it starts the porting number and I think I might have had to go to network settings and type something in or at least verify it.

It only took a minute or two and was mostly seamless if you already know where the mobile network settings are on your phone, and if you don't they had a few help articles and videos.

One thing I do recall was when I made my account it didn't say there was a limit on how long the password can be and using the website it truncates your password length automatically but the mobile app does not. So for example if I choose "onehundredfive" as my password which is 14 chars and their system only has a max length of ten then when I created my account on their website it took the "onehundredfive" and truncated it to "onehundred" discarding the rest so when I login later on the website it works fine because it's still only taking the first ten and ignoring the rest. On the mobile app it doesn't truncate so it's logging in with "onehundredfive" but my password is actually just "onehundred" in their system.

Lol. I'm one of those customers. Thank you for letting me know. This company got hacked so many times that we should get free lines for 5 year by now. I'll be making the move to spectrum here in a couple of months.

I mean, to be fair, all of our carriers are absolute garbage. No exception. I've tried all of them and they're all absolute shit. So, it won't really make much different which one you go with if it's all just shit

My experience is different. I have Att for Internet and T-Mobile for phone service.

Both are marked improvements over other options in our area. Ended up switching to our current coverage plans a few years ago. Very happy with service currently

ATT has great packages. I love their fiber and how they have 1GB up and 1GB down, which spectrum lacks. As long as you don't have ATT's own modem/router, I think you're in very good service. That could also apply to other carriers, though. It all depends. Lol

I personally wouldn’t move to spectrum lol

I would switch to ATT, Verizon, or an MVNO

My father in law has been with spectrum for over 2 years now. He told me he has no issues. My Internet is from them and the discount is great. I work from home and barely ever need Cellular

Edit: also I've had ATT before and they sucked badly.

Their Internet is great if you have your own modem and router, not theirs. Theirs suck. Especially for those who work from home and need VPN connection. Spectrum has been the best so far with VPN. I work in IT support and the majority of my VPN connection issues calls come from ATT, Xfinity and those random unknown providers. Spectrum is really good, again, you should have your own equipment. I do. I only have their wire coming from the pole outside to my house, everything else is mine and I set it up. ONE downside with their network that I wish they'd fix is their upload speeds suck. That's about it

Astound broadband just did that.

My $29.99 bill went up to $55. No communication.

I immediately cancelled. It was a 2 hour inconvenience to switch, but it's about sending a message.

T-Mobile makes a big deal of its “price lock” guarantee, but that apparently only applies to its newer, more expensive plans.

Uh, no. That's been their deal for the 20 years I've been a customer. That's why we're still with them despite their actual service being spotty and poor. If they're changing it now, they'll change it again in the future for their more expensive plans. We were already considering switching to Verizon since we can't even get Internet right in front of their headquarters, or at the baseball stadium they own. Now we're definitely going to change. It would be one thing if their coverage was great, but it's not. They brag about having the fastest network all the time, and they do have it, but you have to be within a couple hundred yards of a tower to get those speeds. Any further and it falls off dramatically, eventually putting you in the internet friend zone, where you're not getting any.
