I'm no expert, but with no ring of sharp shooting or boomerangs, I think sniper is the riskier choice. Warden is more generally reliable; I think most of the sniper talents don't work with darts (one works with tipped darts IIRC).

Warden also generally makes up for a lack of decent armor if you happen to have a wand of regrowth.
I had a wand of regrowth and was stuck with chainmail so I chose warden once I reached too deep to survive without a choice
IDK, I always go Warden. The seeing through tall grass is really nice. I've never really gotten the sniper. On the later levels, ranged damage is counteracted by enemies that'll fire right back at you like the Evil Eye. Maybe a sniper fan can chime in how they handle that?
If you have a projecting bow and/or a ring of sharpshooting, sniper can be very powerful, especially using the stone of augmentation for speed on the bow.
