We give religious freaks more platform than climate scientists when it comes to "the world is going to end for humans"

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Which is wild, considering the top religion in my country is "none".

People replace one religion with another.

There's a lot of big religions right now who claim not to be one.

Tech absolutism, capitalism meritocracy, the whole cult of men trying to out tough each other and worshipping the idea of unique individualism through shared identity of shittiness.

I mean religion is a belief system of how the world works. Lots of people have a belief that doesn't match reality in some way, but it's a simpler option than meeting the world each time as unique for handling day to stuff. When you can have Faith® and just focus on your stuff and figure it will figure itself out cause something out there will do the saving.

A bit of a stretch if you ask me.

Hard disagree on the tech absolutism. That might be a cult but it's not a religion.

Even then, I'm a tech absolutist because I'm qualified to know why others are wrong.

What's the difference between a cult and a religion in your opinion?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

A fake deity to worship that's supernatural in origin.

But how will this affect profits?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago

we need to consider the shareholders

[–] rockSlayer 37 points 1 year ago

We need to dramatically restructure our society to avoid total climate chaos. Unfortunately that means less profit for the ultra wealthy, so it's not likely to happen

Humanity is a farce. We prance about, puffed up with nothing but pretense and delusions.

Who could mourn such pathetic creatures?

[–] kromem 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The AI we leave behind us to inherit the universe in our wake.

[–] WillardHerman 4 points 1 year ago

AI is just as pathetic as we are, since AI are based on us.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have kith and kin that I mourn.

[–] WillardHerman 4 points 1 year ago

Yes, most of us have family and friends. And our in-groups.

But that doesn’t change the farcical, slapstick, puppet-show that is humanity.

We jibber-jabber about how we will change before the worst and save ourselves. And here we are marching our way to extinction.

Is someone tracking the billionaires yachts and jets? Might need to see where they have their bunkers and hideouts

[–] anon232 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

At this point just let the end times come. We're finished. We'll go through an extinction event, and whatever is leftover can start new. Hopefully the next race of human-like creatures that are born from the ashes (assuming the planet doesn't turn into Mars) have enough sense to not do what we did.

Imagine being the people that come after the "let the end times come" generations

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Ah, the “let the end times come” generations who still want to be cared for when they get old by younger generations.

Yes, this is pretty infuriating. We're so to say at peak humanity. We have more wealth, knowledge, freedom and leisure time than most people before and after us. And while the people before and after us struggle and fight to survive, we have the paradoxical luxury to lean back, pretending there's nothing worth fighting for.

While scientists tell us every tenth of a degree matters, and +2.7°C is still much better than +3.2°C (imaginary numbers).

Tomorrow 15th Sept is another FFF strike. Check if you can join.

Sad thing is that this is incredibly unlikely.
