MODERATORS

I've recently repaired my old Switch and given it to a friend. Since I suspect they'll be playing with their 7yo kid, I just wanted to know if you have any recommendations?

The kid doesn't speak/read English, so the game in question would need to not rely on understanding of the language.

Their native language is Swedish if that has any impact.

Thanks!

Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8 are pretty kid-friendly and you don't really need to understand the language after you find the play button.

Newer Super Mario Bros Deluxe, every Kirby game, Yoshi's Crafted World, Switch Sports, Fall Guys, Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom.

Lots of great suggestions, but I'd like to add Captain Toad Treasure Tracker to the list. The puzzles are fun and they encourage you to think outside the box. Not too difficult and you don't really need to understand the language.

This is a good suggestion.

What the Golf? worked well for the nephews cause the text doesn't really matter, very simple controls and can play almost all of it on touchscreen (some holes use gyro aiming), a quick play/show to a friend mode and also a funny game. just a warning some holes get hard so they might get frustrated and need help.

Edit forgot to add 2 player vs as well

Ultimate chicken horse is the go to game for my little ones! It's simple and great fun for multiplayer, but not much single player content.

Why don't you put the language of the switch to Swedish?

Not all games are translated to Swedish, sadly

Super Mario 3D World is a great game with no important text!

Yeah, all Mario games are great. Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, all are good suggestion for a kid (and grownups)

Mario Kart funkar nästan alltid. Easy to get started with, training settings to do away with frustration, 4-player couch multi.

On top of my head:

  • Rayman Legends
  • Yoshi's Crafted World
  • New Super Mario Bros Deluxe
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

My kid (non-English speaking) has played most of these and loved them.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is really good

[–] Narann 1 points 1 year ago
  • Boomrang Fu
  • Stick Fight - The Game
  • Splatoon (2 or 3), once she know where to do casual, it's easy/no text.

  • Astro Aqua Kitty

  • Broforce

  • Crash Bandicoot

  • Ding Dong XL

  • Sky Force Reloaded

  • Part Time UFO

  • Donut County

  • Disco Elysium (just kidding)

Thank you all! I'm leaning towards Yoshi's Crafted World, but I have a copy of New Super Mario Bros Deluxe that I'm ready to part with for now. I might gift them Yoshi later as a birthday gift

Thanks again! <3

The original Swedish mega-hit is Minecraft! I feel like 7 is old enough to understand that game, unless somebody here disagrees. There's an "easy" mode of course, but there's also a "peaceful" mode where enemies disappear and the hunger/starving mechanic goes away.
