The driver of a a shuttle bus that crashed at O'Hare Airport Friday morning has died, the Cook County coroner confirmed.

The crash occurred on a ramp to Terminal 5 at the airport at about 2:30 a.m. The bus appeared to crash into a median, with the bus having heavy damage to its front.

CFD responded to the scene and found the driver, who was ejected from the crash. He was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition, CFD said. He later died.

My condolences to the driver's family.

Gotta say I hate that an 80 yr old still was working, at 2:30 am shift no less. I mean at that point in your life you'd hope the companies you gave your best years to would have set up a retirement fund for you. (this is not a small snark)

It's possible that he didn't really need to work, but just that he enjoyed it and it gave him something to do.

But still, at 80, at 2:30 in the morning, he should not have been in charge of a bus, especially carrying passengers.

Definitely should've of being driving at 2.30 in the morning at that age. Sick and sad he died because the company chose to keep an 80 year old man working.

... and a nation still allows unfettered capitalism to rule our whole lives, until we die under its soul-sucking weight.

Remember the richest country. Here that all the time but don't see any of these riches.

I blame Marx for not taking care of his health to chart a way out of this suffering. /s

You say that as if he didn't need to work to survive. Not everyone has a retirement plan that works out. A lot of people lost everything in the 2008 banking scandals. That was only 15 years ago, right around when this person was 65 and likely ready to retire then.

Why is an 80 year old allowed to drive a bus? At that age, your reaction time and attentiveness are severely hindered. He could have easily killed someone riding with him, or if he crashed into someone.
