Fuck this shit, first reddit and now Sony. I've been a PS fanboy for ages, but this really makes me think twice before renewing anything
Fuck Subscriptions
Naming and shaming all "recurring spending models" where a one-time fee (or none at all) would be appropriate and logical.
Expect use of strong language.
Follow the basic rules of lemmy.world and common sense, and try to have fun if possible.
No flamewars or attacking other users, unless they're spineless corporate shills.
Note that not all subscriptions are awful. Supporting your favorite ~~camgirl~~ creator or Lemmy server on Patreon is fine. An airbag with subscription is irl Idiocracy-level dystopian bullshit.
New community rule: Shilling for cunty corporations, their subscriptions and other anti-customer practices may result in a 1-day ban. It's so you can think about what it's like when someone can randomly decide what you can and can't use, based on some arbitrary rules. Oh what, you didn't read this fine print? You should read what you're agreeing to.

Never paid for the stupid subscription. Paying for online was always ridiculous despite how people tried to frame it like they were paying for the game rentals. But, didn't change that it all stopped working if the subscription wasn't active. Boo console multiplayer subscriptions. Boo
PC gaming FTW. You may pay a little more upfront, but Steam sales and the lack of subscription fees more than makes up for it.
And it can actually be used for stuff other then games. Free tools like blender if you want to learn 3d modeling or da vinci resolve for video editing and so on. It doesn't just have to stay an expensive gaming rig but a device to learn some new skills.
And they didn't even dedicate an article to do so, buried behind these crappy game announcements lol.
I bought premium on sale so only paid 86 or whatever it was, but I’m not the sort to auto-renew stuff. I’ll cancel and wait for it to go on sale again, and if it never does, I’ll weigh weather or not I want it.
So far in the months I’ve had it, I’ve played (or at least tried) $80 worth of games because I have no life, but 160 is a much harder threshold, and if I had any sort of social circle it probably wouldn’t be worth it. Especially when most of the catalogue is streaming, which sucks for a lot of games. So laggy, even wired.
Crazy increase... kind of expected and was probably part of the plan since consolidating services and rebranding last year. Glad I brought years worth of the service before they merged since they had deals for $40 at the time. Unless this gets discounted during holidays I also need to weigh it out. I am enjoying the top tier service which seems to offer 1 great game a year on launch for free, last year was Stray and a day ago Sea of Stars which does cut the cost of the service for me. They will need to offer more going forward to justify that cost.
That's a pretty significant increase... But unless they also reduce the slow drip of new games, it would still be a good value. I have no faith that they won't reduce the number of games on it until the value is nothing, tho.
