For me it's Wolf children. I watch it when I'm not feeling the best physically or mentally. What's your comfort watch?

Oh man, this is my jam right here:

  • Scrubs
  • That '70s Show
  • Futurama
  • Simpsons (Early seasons of course)
  • Bob's Burgers recently was added to the list
  • Everybody Loves Raymond
    • Sometimes you just want a stupid go-nowhere show you can tune out
  • King of the Hill
  • Malcolm in the Middle
  • Trailer Park Boys
    • Sometimes you have to just sit back and wish you were with the boys smokin' dope
  • How I Met Your Mother
    • was a comfort show, but ever since S9 I can't bring myself to rewatch

I very much like your taste πŸ€€πŸ‘

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Haha that seems to be a very common thread with How I Met Your Mother fans. I cannot stand the ending it just makes me so mad. I have the dvd release though so it has the alternate ending

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Honest to god had no idea there was an alternate ending... how is it?

Parks and recreation is my main one, or stargate for when im feeling nerdier

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I absolutely love parks and rec. I have it on as background noise all the time. Don't forget to treat yo self!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Parks and recreation

Star Trek TNG and DS9. Brings back a lot of fond feelings and is my TV hug.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

TNG is my go to show when I'm sick. So soothing!

Ted Lasso and Supernatural

[–] Kalissy 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Movies: the entire LoTR trilogy, followed by The Hobbit trilogy because at that point I'm committed to the theme and I manage to still find it entertaining

Shows: the Office

Avatar: Last Air Bender

[–] ElephantKant 3 points 2 years ago

When I'm feeling sick, nothing makes me feel better than watching Arthur. Yes the Aardvark.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Whose line is it anyway, Friends, Ouran High School Host Club

[–] Saint_of_Illusion 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Shows: Arrested Development, Home Improvement, Seinfeld

Movies: Mrs. Doubtfire, Wayne's World, Clueless

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Robinhood: Men in Tights! Any time I'm sick with a cold or flu I go and get some food and chill out in front of the TV to watch it. No matter how bad I'm feeling it always makes me laugh.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Gilmore Girls or Taskmaster in terms of TV shows, but Buffy, Stargate SG-1 and QI are in the mix as well.

Filmwise I would say Clueless.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Bobs Burgers, The Great North, Arrested Development….huh do I just like various types of weird families?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Always Firefly

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago
[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yep. Frasier and Seinfeld. Two greats but very different shows

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Oh! and How I Met Your Mother. I love that show. I don't ever watch s9 though. It made me so made when it aired

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Bob's Burgers, Star Trek TNG and DS9, MST3K, The Great North. Studio Ghibli stuff. King of the Hill. Probably more.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So many people saying TNG haha. Is that show really that universally appealing or are y'all just my age?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There's not really many - if any (I can't think of any off hand) - shows like it. It's got a bit of adventure and/or intrigue, but also drama, decent acting (most of the time), and most importantly a hopeful, non-violent message. Not even the newer ST shows (or the horrible JJ Abrams movies) can make that final boast. It's definitely in my top three go-to shows.

Closest thing for me is probably Clannad

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

MASH and Star Trek

[–] skybreaker 2 points 2 years ago

My wife watches New Girl, the Office, and Scrubs basically on constant repeat.

Apparently, going back to a "comfort show" is a sign that you might have anxiety

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Archer
Letterkenny
Shoresy

I like having background noise, and find that I focus better when something is running that I can follow without paying full attention to it. I’ve seen these 3 all the way through over 20 times, at least so they’re useful for that. I also just plain love the shows… Shoresy S2 can’t land soon enough.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I know this will sound strange, but Battlebots got me through some dark moments during the pandemic. Something about watching robots rip each other to shreds really takes me away from my problems.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

That sounds decidedly not strange. Battlebots is awesome.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Red Green. Supernatural. SG1. And forgive me, but for those particularly shitty days, Beavis and Butthead.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

How does red green hold up? I swear I haven't thought about that show in 20 years

Oh i have a really good one, and if you have watched it, definetly tell me because i cant find any discussion about it online. Its called Wood Job, It takes place in a fictional remote forested village and its woodworking industry. its a wholesome story really wholesome and rewatch it yearly.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

21 and/or 22 Jump Street always make me smile

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

New Girl Parks and Rec

They're just both so upbeat and light. Although during lockdowns seeing happy people having close relationships with friends just made me more sad! Still, it was probably good to have those feelings bubble up so I couldn't keep ignoring them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Airplane! and/or Monty Python and the Holy Grail for movies.

For TV, I will watch Futurama, KotH, early episodes of the Simpsons and early eps of Family Guy. Not too much else comes to mind

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Usually child friendly stuff like Molang, Karate Sheep, Classic Tom and Jerry.

Other stuff like The Dark Knight Trilogy, V for Vendetta, Death Note, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Doctor Who (mainly 10th doctor)
