It's almost a shame to cut it.

Better shove it down at once.

[–] rave_demon 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Would you believe me if I told you it also tasted absolutely delicious? We invited some friends over and devoured the entire thing

[–] MadWorks 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nope, wouldn't believe you at all. You should make another and send it to me so that I can judge for myself.

[–] rave_demon 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Let's share it together :)

[–] MadWorks 5 points 2 years ago

We're gonna need a bigger tart. Lol

Beatiful! But don't hold it sideways, it'll fall!

[–] rave_demon 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hehe okay genuine question as I am new to Lemmy.... why do some of my photos upload sideways?

[–] VeganSchnitzel 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have no clue, sorry. Not really a tech person, jsut here for silly jokes

[–] rave_demon 2 points 2 years ago

Same! lol no worries

[–] Goodbyeworld 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Remember Austin Powers, “who throws a shoe?” Well, seriously, who downvotes a tart? Honestly.

Did it taste as good as it looks! It looks fantastic OP!

[–] rave_demon 5 points 2 years ago

It actually did taste incredible. I essentially frankensteined 3 recipes together and made some tweaks. It was eaten in under an hour haha

That looks gorgeous! I saw in another comment that you used a mandolin to slice the apples - you’re braver than I am. I have one, but I’m terrified of it 😅

[–] rave_demon 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

They have finger guards for them! Don't be afraid, they smell fear. You can't slice all the way down, obviously, but the scraps can be used re: that comment I made earlier

[–] TskUghPfftUhh 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have a dumbass/odd question: are mandolin slicers adjustable and could they be used to slice bagels? I need my bagels cut into 3rds or 4ths, not in halves.

[–] rave_demon 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes they are adjustable! You can adjust for different thicknesses. Would it be thick enough or sharp enough for a bagel? I am unsure but I am intrigued, please let me know if you try it

[–] TskUghPfftUhh 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Do you have a recommendation for a mandolin brand? I might give it a go.

Hahaha, I’ll think about it (or, more likely, cajole my spouse into doing it for me)

[–] rave_demon 3 points 2 years ago

They don't need their fingertips as much as you do, surely.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

That IS a beautiful tart!

[–] TskUghPfftUhh 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So fancy looking 🌹 How was it? Are the apple "petals" a crispy texture?

[–] rave_demon 5 points 2 years ago

Yes they're somewhat crips because I used honeycrisp and granny Smith apples

Looks beautiful and delicious!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

The fact that the photo is rotated by 90° confused the heck out of me at first. The background looked like something an AI created where the longer you look at it the less sense it makes.

Beautiful tart btw, holy smokes.

[–] rave_demon 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thank you! I'm not sure why they rotate haha

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I notice that lots of photos posted to Lemmy are rotated by 90° and I’m wondering what the reason is, I doubt it’s coincidence.

Is it possible that you took the photo 90° rotated and corrected it afterwards? It seems to me like this correction is gone. If yes, how did you correct the orientation of the photo?

Good job, looks amazing!

[–] cybervseas 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Is there some custard in the base of that? Or maybe frangipane? Or are you a madlad and went for 100% apples?!

[–] rave_demon 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

100% apples my friend. I used a mandolin to slice the apples so that they were thin and uniform, but its hard to slice ALL of it right? So I took the little left over slivers, chopped them down, and cooked them into a soft apple pie filling with some sugar, lemon, a splash of white wine. Then I spread that into the par-baked crust before arranging the slices on top as you see. It made it taste really good, I'm glad I did that, but it was sort of something I came up with on the spot

[–] cybervseas 3 points 2 years ago

Nice. Both resourceful and creative. Thanks.

[–] teflocarbon 3 points 2 years ago

Looks absolutely delicious. Very well done. I’m feeling very jealous right now.
