Lol, I read this headline and actually believed it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

I mean, it’s probably right….. the onion, nowadays, is a good crystal ball.

[–] Pattern 5 points 1 year ago

It took me longer to realize than typical Onion headlines

[–] MCForTheBest 3 points 1 year ago

I read the subs name right after and I was like no this can't be the onion

Onion needs to stop giving DeSantis ideas.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The AP psych thing actually happened. It failed because the college boards basically told him to go fuck himself, but he did try

Onion is getting too tasty lately.

I was caught by this one until I checked the community. The worst part is it's believable.

[–] Weslee 4 points 1 year ago

Exactly the same, I fully thought it was real until I clicked on it and went to the website.

It's worse because it's not really that crazy to say this is happening these days

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I gotta know, who downvotes this and why?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Probably anyone who is sick of seeing this turd in the media. Just like Trump and Musk the more you talk about them, good or bad, the better they feel and the more their profile is raised in the media. These guys are raging narcissists. They don't care if the attention is good or bad, only that you are paying attention to them.

I guess so. He is pretty annoying, but I think he’s a necessary evil—hear me out. The more we get examples of authoritarianism (while also having a court system to veto him), the more people see what a bad direction it is… hopefully. I don’t have a lot of faith in people at the moment.

Before Trump, I would have agreed. But after all the shit he pulled, his support amongst minorities he actively persecuted actually INCREASED by 2020. If anything, seeing shit like this all the time from people like this just normalizes it and makes people desensitized to it.

Stuff like this has to be rare and heavily condemned by a large amount of charismatic and popular people for it to be stopped and not become everyday business. I want less people like this and for them to be taken down faster.

Plus, the more people behave like this openly with few or no consequences, and in the mainstream media no less, the more emboldened people like him become and the more overt they become with their actions. For example: hate groups like the Proud Boys and 3 percenters used to be too scared to be as blatant and public as they are now, but now White Supremacy is loud and proud.

This is why simply ignoring fascists doesn't work. Fascists only understand power and violence and therefore must be beaten back into hiding.

Unfortunately, because we live in capitalist hellworld, the media, both "left" and right wing media, will cover everything they do because they generate views.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

It’s the condemnation part we lack. Not enough people willing to do that on “center” news networks. The people who make the real calls follow the money, and whomever gets the most viewers wins.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I'm lacking that faith in humanity as well. Which is why we should ignore this chucklefuck.

Filtering by keyword will be glorious when it arrives

[–] gameboyhomeboy 6 points 1 year ago

Fascists, probably

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

My biggest problem with it is the implication that DeSantis has a mental illness, or that if he had a mental illness that would be the problem with him. Being fascist is not a mental illness. Mentally healthy people can be fascists. And mentally ill people can have great politics and do great service to the world. Psychology isn't necessary to figure out what's wrong with DeSantis; you just need a heart.

[Edit: "Mentally healthy, well-adjusted people can be fascists" -> "Mentally healthy people can be fascists"]

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I really disagree that you could consider any fascist 'well-adjusted', that's a near complete contradiction in terms.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I do remember wondering if that was good wording. I think what I was trying to get across is that fascists can be friendly, sociable, considerate, even compassionate, in the right circumstances. The human psyche is extremely adept at compartmentalization.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

You can solve for mental illness, you can’t solve for asshole. 🤷‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

What's the DSM-V classification for "fascist symp"?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Perpetual Terror Syndrome. The belief that everything and everyone is coming for you so it leads you in flailing wildly against reality. /s

AP Psychology? College Prep or even General Ed Psychology is enough to figure this idiot out, particularly with a good teacher. CP Psychology was enough to give me a head start on what was wrong with me and my entire family. (A lot of stuff)

Edit: Yes I know it's the Onion, but I wouldn't be shocked if he actually tries to do this. Higher learning helps you figure out stupid GOP brainwashing and dysfunction.
