I wish there were craft sodas so that everyone would call Coke and Pepsi horse piss.

[–] Cjwi 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

In addition to Jones and Virgil as others have said we have Maine Root, Sprechers, Dublin and others. Most grocery stores in the US at least will have a small section of various root beers and other craft sodas. Stores like whole foods or other fancy type places will usually have more of a selection. World market has a ton as well I believe.

There are certainly fancier brands, like Jones.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Jones soda is the bomb

[–] baronvonj 3 points 1 year ago

Also Virgil's, especially their cream soda.

[–] idunnololz 0 points 1 year ago

Is there a diet Jones tho?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

At least where I live there are a bunch of small soda brands at the grocery store make pepsi and coke seem like piss water.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

We have coke. Pepsi is horse piss.

Craft beer is like someone took the worst part of beer and made it the only part. I'm not saying Budweiser is good but it's better than any craft shit I've ever had

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Coming from Belgium, it's an entirely different experience here.

We've theorised that in the US, they're just businesses that buy an installation with recipes included and have very little knowledge of how brewing actually works.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Do you mean for the mass produced shit lagers? There is a lot of science that goes into making those as bland as possible.

For craft brews, quite a few brew masters absolutely love beer and brewing and study a myriad of brewing techniques from around the world.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Craft beer is an extremely wide range of types. What do you consider the worst part of beer? Bitterness? Sweetness? Thickness? There are tons of different flavors along the thousands upon thousands of beers in the world.

Bud Lite is brewed to be as flavorless as possible. It's not bad but I don't think anyone would argue that it is great either. It is meant to be as acceptable as possible by the largest amount of people.

Beer, overall, may not be your thing. That's fine. But tons of beers have a lot to offer from a flavor complexity standpoint.

Horse piss has body and flavor and useful ammonia and phosphorus content. Do not denigrate it by comparing it to fucking Bud Light.

[–] Got_Bent 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't like Bud Light. I have never liked Bud Light. It's been over twenty years since I've drunk a Bud Light.

However, I also believe there is a time and place to consume crappy American adjunct lager. Generally daytime outdoor activities.

I don't understand the culture of disparaging people for the beer they drink. I especially don't understand something along the line of a Coors Light drinker expressing existential superiority over a Bud Light drinker.

As to the craft drinkers, I see that as an entirely different market that should keep to itself. It's like Michelin star diners disparaging people who can only afford to occasionally eat at the local greasy spoon.

[–] MotoAsh 9 points 1 year ago

You don't understand dissing on others for stupid things?? But that's American tradition! Cannot have a man to look down on if there's nothing to be hyper-judgemental about.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yup, light beers are great for college parties and outdoor drinking games. Cheap and you can drink literally all day without geting too drunk or bloated which is kind of the point of the product. Witbeers, lagers, etc are for when you actually want to get drunk off of a few beers and enjoy the taste. I think that anyone who genuinely compares the two have never actually been invited to a party where they serve alcohol or they just want to feel smugly superior about something and chose beer consumption of all things haha

Here's my take: let people like what they like. Yeah, I don't like Budweiser. So what? I know a lot of people that hate extra peaty malt, and while I disagree, they're allowed to just not like Scottish malt whiskey.

You don't jump in on band wagons for validation? Weirdo

Laphroaig for the win... Was in Oban a few weeks back for a holiday and got a bottle of Kilchomain from the shop across the road from the distillery (no way was I paying the distillery prices - £75 for a 10 year?). Really enjoying it, quite liking the salty overtones.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think that Oban had a soapy taste for me that I didn't like. Laphroaig used to be my go-to, since I'm poor, but it's gotten steadily more expensive for even the cheapest interations. Now I mostly drink Costco's Kirkland blended, or bourbon. :/

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hey, you've found what's good for you :) I did sample the Oban and it was nice, but not at the price they were hawking it at. My current overall favourite is probably a tossup between the Laphroaig Cairdeas I got in 2017 (I think? I'm a bit fuzzy) and a 12-year non-chill-filtered Aberlour... which are such different taste profiles as to be practically incomparable :D Everyone has different tastes, so... going back to the thread starter, let's celebrate different tastes.

Tbh I'm still in shock that the usually well informed online queer space made bud light a trans icon. Anheuser-Busch donates to Republican candidates that are introducing bigotted bills against trans people

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

As far as I can tell, this is what happened:

Anheuser-Busch send one (1) bespoke label Bud Light to a trans influencer.

Fascists proceed to flip out as if that one beer was a declaration of war against transphobia.

Some people figure (quite wrongly) that the enemy of their enemy is their friend and embrace the GOP-supporting piss-water.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Mainly because Coors was heavily, directly anti gay rights for decades. Bud got the green light by being the less obvious evil, and then it became the default.

[–] Dettweiler42 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I guarantee horse piss has more flavor than Bud Light.

Next week on on X Factor……..

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You know what horse piss tastes like?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Clearly he doesn't, because horse piss is actually way better than Bud Light. I mean, it actually has flavor at the very least.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah. Bud light is more like the rinse water from when they clean the beer tanks.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel a small doubt now that people think I may be protesting when I buy miller lite here in the home of bud light (St. Louis) but Ive always hated bud lite and yes the brewery smells like shit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Idk how you can say the brewery smells like shit. The kiss of the hops is the best part of the tour!

[–] froh42 2 points 1 year ago

Bud light always makes me think of having sex in a canoe.

Both are fucking close to water.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What is going on with the bus light brewery?
I've worked at breweries. They should smell awesome.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

While at university I worked for a small company and Budwieser was one of our clients. I would drop in occasionally to the brewery, and it always smelled like chundered beer.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I can afford Bud if I want it, but you can't put a price on a lifetime ban from the ranch

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Y'all offended?

[–] mrginger -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Have a buddy that will buy 24 packs of that hot garbage for parties or get togethers. Either that or Keystone light. Not really sure why I'm friends with him...

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Because he provides free beer for the group, even though some of them are pretentious assholes?
