I'm not sure whether it's an issue with Federation, synchronisation, or something else, but I've noticed that sometimes, when writing a post, and submitting it, the Lemmy interface will hang on some posts, getting stuck on the loading circle, which is probably related to the known issue with the interface not sending or interpreting errors correctly.

As an example, I was writing a post and a comment on a non-local community, and noticed that I sometimes had to copy the post, cancel the "sending" post, and paste it, and try again for it to "take" and the post to send successfully.

However, since I can't recreate the issue reliably, I'm not sure whether it's an issue with server load on lemmy.world, or an issue with Federation.

EDIT: I checked some of the posts and communities that I was having issues posting in, and it seems to be affect both local and Federated/remote communities.

One of them was on !nostupidquestions, and another was on [email protected].

I have the same thing happen semi-regularly. My test post to Lemmy.world as myself (essentially trying to make a post to my own profile) results in the spinning wheel button indefintely. Retrying and recreating my post also has the same result. Additionally, trying to comment to some communities such as !nostupidquestions (I'm guessing the r/nostupidquestions community equivalent here) as well as here (!Lemmy.world) also gives me the spinning wheel buton indefintely at times, but works other times. If we're doing something that is restricted, I would appreciate an error message, or somethng else that will let me troubleshoot the issue.

Hi @[email protected] when you have that spinning icon, could you try and refresh the page and see if is posted?

Also, when did this happen? Because there was an issue regarding this but that should be fixed now. You can read up about it here: https://lemmy.world/post/288652

It was an hour or three ago, sometime after the slowness issue was resolved.

Sometimes refreshing works and shows it having posted, but sometimes, it doesn't. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell whether it worked or not without refreshing the page itself, but I have noticed that it seems to be an issue related to having the reply box open for while (usually when I'm writing a long reply, or was distracted and had it open for a while). If I paste in the text, and send it immediately, it's more likely to send instantly rather than get stuck.

Do you happen to have any other Lemmy tabs open?

[โ€“] T156 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, I tend to open posts in a new tab, so I can look at something else while writing a reply. Does that cause issues?

Lemmy uses websockets which can cause issues with multiple Lemmy tabs open. Try closing the other lemmy.world tabs when posting, that should solve it.

Sorry, but I think you've linked to this same post, rather than specific comment.

Oh, that's good to know. I've been a bit spotty about setting the default language for my posts (it seems to default to nothing for one reason or another), so that might not be helping things.
