Share youtube, songwhip, spotify, bandcamp links, music memes, album art, articles, whatever! But avoid links to directly download music (don't want to get Lemmy.world in trouble). Songwhip links always appreciated!
See this post on recs on how to post!
The Golden Rule: Music taste is subjective so don't be a gatekeeping asshole. There's no "bad music", only music you like or don't like.
We Are A Community: So no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or spam.

Where to find ren:
Yes!! Neko stans rise up!!
Would cut off my arm for Neko Case.
Blackstar - David Bowie
Blue in Green - Miles Davis
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
Pink + white - Frank Ocean
Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
Tangled up in Blue - Bob Dylan
Sorry if these aren't "alternative" still trying to figure out what that really means but I'm not sure I'd call any of these inside the modern mainsteam.
Pink moon, pink and white, and yellow Ledbetter are all songs I love on various playlists of mine. I'll have to give the other songs you suggested a listen!
Here's two with the color pink! First from one of my favorite bands.
Second one is probably not considered alternative but whatever I like it because it's basically an Andre 3000 song.
An even better candidate...
Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine
Not very alternative, but Nina Simone - Black Is The Color of My True Love's Hair https://youtu.be/NWmCbEbMmeU
will have a think for a better answer...
Julian Casablancas "Out Of The Blue"
Phrazes for the Young is a great album!
Does psy trance count as alternative? Infected Mushroom - Pink Nightmares (E: link to the better, extended version I thought I'd linked in the first place)
Ill give you 4 colours.
Purple Yellow Red and Blue - Portugal. The Man.
I'm surprised no one dropped this one.
Paint it, Black - Rolling Stones
Fountains of Wayne - Red Dragon Tattoo
So many 'blue' songs to choose from....
totally, that βcaliβ sound always has a summery vibe to it, Blue album really captures it well with those fuzzy d-tuned power chords.
True! But I was actually thinking like Blue Monday, Blue (Jayhawks), No Blue Sky, When the Stars Go Blue, Bullet the Blue Sky, and on and on and on. π
Not sure it this really qualifies as alternative? But I've recently been enjoying Ilsey's Heart of Gold cover. Nice to see more collabs of her and Justin Vernon.
Bad Religion - The Gray Race (debatable if alternative, though)
Oh BR is def alternative. Never really got near the mainstream!
You might be right. It's just in case of punk rock bands those are a very well known one. Well at least they were in the 90s.
Arctic Monkeys - Red Light Indicates Doors are Secured

(a reference to):
Animal Sun - Girl in Blue
Bleu Nuit from Timber Timbre. Awesome "noir" ambience from a great unique band.
TL;DR: I hate picking one. But if I had to, it'd probably be Black Car by Beach House.
Link to the Spotify Playlist. Depends what you define as alternative! Here's what I found in my Spotify likes that one could argue are alternative (I've starred are my top faves):
β Black - Pearl Jam (please listen to the MTV unplugged version if you haven't yet)
Blackest Bile - Giles Corey
β Blackberry Stone - Laura Marley
Black Swan - Thom Yorke
β Black Car - Beach House
Black Cadillacs - Modest Mouse
Blackout - Muse
Black Rain - Soundgarden
β Black Star - Radiohead
Waving A White Flag - The Smile
White Cyclosa - Boards of Canada
Red Right Hand - Arctic Monkeys
Ruby - Tweaker, Will Oldham (a bit of a weird one)
β Ruby Pool - VOLA (alternative rock electronic stuff what genre even is this???)
β Cherry-coloured Funk - Cocteau Twins
Cherry - Chromatics
Pink Funeral - Beach House
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
β Peach Pit - Peach Pit
β Tangerine - Frank Sativa
Amber - 311
Gold Guns Girls - Metric
I Love You Golden Blue - Sonic Youth
β Green Green Grass Of Tunnel - mΓΊm
β Turquoise Hexagon Sun - Boards of Canada
Some stuff I can't say is alternative but I love enough to mention:
Big Black Car - Gregory Alan Isakov (Folk)
Black Leaf - John Paul White (that's a twofer! Folk)
Black Sands - Bonobo (downtempo electronic? I dunno)
Red Summer - Thornhill (metalcore)
Vermilion, pt. 2 - Slipknot (this is acoustic, not what you might think as slipknot)
Flamingo - Kero Kero Bonito (don't judge)
Bright as Yellow - The Innocence Mission (indie folk)
Aquamarine - The Afterimage (metalcore, this song very much not metal though)
Blue Ridge Mountains - Fleet Foxes (indie folk)
so much Black, but no Black Hole Sun? ;)
Gosh I knew I was missing something. I have a lot of songs missing in my liked songs on Spotify because I'll add them to my playlists but forget to like them. I'll try to remember to add it, thanks!
;)
blue - fyc
Pink Cigarette - Mr. Bungle
Red Flag - Billy Talent
Blue Monday - New Order
Blue Orchid - The White Stripes
Nights in White Satin - The moody Blues
Augie March - Thereβs something at the bottom of the black pool https://open.spotify.com/track/3LClp65ppWEjCrHrnsKiNt?si=Elu8D-7RQSWnw8TQzw_d_w
red thread - lisa germano
quite interested to know if you can get a good full rainbow going:
r - red sky - pere ubu
o - the orange county lumber truck - mothers of invention
y - yellow country teeth - cyhasy
g - buckingham green - ween
b - blue boy - orange juice (double points?)
i - indigo - moloko
v - violet - hole
finish off with the rainbow by talk talk for good measure
might also sneak pink glove by pulp in just before red.
I'm keeping with my first choice, but it might be interesting to to pick a colour.
(blue is illegal, black/white is also too common and not proper colours )
here's some more red - so i might stick with red overall:
blood red bird - smog
murder in the red barn - tom waits
my lips are red - st vincent
brick is red - pixies
my left red eye - worm is green
red sky - acoustic ladyland
if acoustic ladyland is permissable, then i might get away with:
red clay - soil and pimp sessions
Pink Diamond - Charli XCX
