ByteDance will never sell the TikTok algo. They'll handover a tamed version, but never the cutting edge.
The point is that the US, and US companies, think they can bully their way to preminence and they can't.
They can fuck a whole lot of shit up on the way there though

Even ignoring geopolitics, I don’t think Tencent is going to accept shares in an unprofitable start up in an unproven and possibly permanently unprofitable industry in exchange for one of the most valuable tech properties on Earth.
TikTok was never approved for sale. China would never give that kind of soft power up.
