The sentiment really needs to shift to buy non-american. As a canadian i am totally happy to buy EU, AuS, NZ, even China over USA.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 37 minutes ago

even China over USA.

Beg to differ. This feels a bit like those republicans voting to abolish the social security they rely upon just to "own the libs".

China is in no way better than the US and needs to be stopped just as much.

We should act in our own interest (furthering manufacturing in Western/democratic countries) and not in spite ("owning" the us-americans)

Agreed. Though I'd welcome Canada into the EU cordially.

If 2000 me saw this picture I'd be infuriated. 2025 me understand and supports.

[–] some_designer_dude 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You should probably still be infuriated.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 hours ago

I meant because of the sticker.

Now I'm infuriated for the opposite reason.

Add a Maple Leaf and Sombrero to the buy stickers.

If this drives ppl off of WhatsApp to Signal and they remain there post this US administration, I think that's another win

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Signal is based in america though, and its non-profit organisation is american.

I want to stick this up in the US, too.

You can boycott us companies that donate to the political parties. Big money has no place in politics.

While I approve of the message i dont approve of littering and vandalizing items by putting stickers on everything on public areas. I see sticker on everything outside every day and it is so ugly and after a few days they fade and get scratched up washed by the rain and will stay ~~unreasonable~~ unreadable for multiple years and just be an ugly eyesore.

Please stop vandalizing and use better means of spreading the word or place the stickers on your own property like your laptop, notebook or backpack.

I'll probably downvoted but I really can't stand stickers everywhere even when I approve of the message.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 14 hours ago

Agreed. I'm so tired of every single light pole, electrical equipment, and wall being covered in ugly stickers (most often about football in some way).

I think I actually prefer conventional ink based vandalism like tagging. At least it takes some effort and the municipality will likely remove it eventually.

Do we even import much? The only thing I have seen are harley motorcycles, but that seems like a minuscular market…

[–] [email protected] 13 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

If the Netherlands imports American goods and services?

They do; lots of junk food such as Coca Cola and McDonald's, confectioneries such as Snickers and KitKat, vehicles from Ford and Tesla, subscription services such as Netflix and Spotify, social media from Meta and X, and so on and so forth...

It's hard to avoid American goods and services, really.

Apple is also a notable company here

Microsoft!

People should ditch Windows and use Linux.

A few weeks ago, I helped my father make the jump.

Window 10 EOL has me switching anyways, Windows 11 is just bad, I don’t care for it at all and being pushed into it feels just as bad as reddit trying to push everyone to their shitty app.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 14 hours ago

Yes. It's always strange when some people want to ban an app because of potential espionage, data gathering, and national security, when most of the computers in governments and the corporate world are using Windows. Even if there are corporate versions that won't gather as much telemetry, and even if Microsoft has not shown sings of bending the knee to the new fascist administration in the US, it's also a matter of security, in addition to a boycott.

Mc Donald's

Good point. It is hard and somewhat confusing at times what one should boycot. While some brands like Tesla and Coca Cola are clearcut, others like Mc Donald's are franchised (or frenchfried) enterprises. Usually they use >90% local ingredients afaik .

Some other big conglomerates do some of same, using locally sourced ingredients.

Also, one could focus on just sanctioning the RED States for example. At least that was also a POV that was interesting. Some might argue, that Dems are also responsible for this mess, but that's something everyone needs to decide for themselves.

Also there is Mondalez International is a USA corp. with a range of cookies & chocolates,

Brands like Milka, Cadbury, Côte d'Or, Toblerone, Freia and, LU, Oreo, Belvita, TUC, Prince en Liga

And Pepsi ( with many brands like Lays.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 hours ago

Franchises usually have to pay a percentage ongoing to the corporate office. Even if a Rotten Rons is a locally owned franchise using 90% locally sourced ingredients, they're still supporting the home office and all its exploitation.
