1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

The front disc brakes and rear drum brakes are good now. I still need to adjust the parking brakes. It's an older 97 Tacoma. Lots to do.

Always do drums one side at a time so you have a reference for when the vice grips slip and that springs boings off into outer space.

DIYing drum brakes is no joke! Nice work!

Worse than drum brakes is the parking brakes if they are drum (I don't know if that's more common or not). Making it smaller just magnifies the problems using conventional tools.

Subaru does that it's annoying as piss, luckily I haven't had to duck with them yet.

Having a drum brake tool makes it a lot less unpleasant. And take a picture of the setup before you start if you don’t have a detailed diagram for that particular setup, because they differ subtly in ways that aren’t obvious until you nearly have it all back together.

Remember, cars always have extra parts inside that aren't really needed when you reassemble. /s

You always have to remember, you know how to build an engine better than the engineers, and those bolts were complete overkill.

It's true. They design them to be over tolerance by like say 150%, so if I leave a few things out that's still probably over 100%. Math checks out.

Neat. How difficult is this to do? Also, what's the error tolerance like? I'm scared I'll do it wrong and die.

I've been changing my oil for a while now. I recently decided to do my own tire rotation as well. Logical next step is to replace the brakes.

Front discs are pretty straight-forward but rears can be tricky depending on design. Drums can be a pain in the ass.

If you take lots of pictures before disassembly, it's not that bad. The worst part is getting some of the springs back in place. They are pretty strong.

Thanks. I'm pretty happy that I finally got it done.
