My PC has an X570 auros master, and it has always had a hard time sleeping. When I let it sleep on any operating system the top row of USB 2.0 ports goes out, and sometimes it hangs and can't wake at all. My preference would be to fix this issue, if possible. My current operating system is garuda (arch based), but I also have a KDE neon and win 11 machine installed if needed.

If it's an issue without a good solution, I need to know how to protect my monitors from burn in and other runtime related wear without sleeping the PC. I tried the settings that turns off the screens without suspending, but when I woke them only one made it back up and the mouse couldn't reach it, which makes me think the machine was frozen. I'm aware of and open to other solutions like a screensaver program or messing with DPMS. But I would prefer a more straightforward and integrated solution if possible.

You can still run xscreensaver on wayland with this workaround.

env -u WAYLAND_DISPLAY xscreensaver --no-splash

You will not have a lock functionality and you will have to configure it in an X11 session as I still haven't gotten xscreensavers settings to run.

Might help though.

The off button? That may come off as flippant, but it's sincere.

It gets the job done, but pretty terrible QOL. We'll call it plan Z.

How about if you put the monitor power cables through a physical switch? Then you can put the switch where it's convenient and only have a single switch for multiple monitors.

This is what i do for my sim-rig so the wheel and accessories aren't on all the time.

Test this first: Unplug your monitor from the power. Power goes out right? Now. Plug it back in. Does the monitor power back up and display the PC desktop without touching any buttons?

If so, get a smart strip (power strip) like this one. The way these work is that there are different outlets on them. Some outlets are "on" all the time. One is a "control" outlet that watches for power being drawn through it. The remaining are automatically switched on and off depending if power draw is detected on the "control" outlet.

So you'd plug your PC into the "control" and your monitor into an auto switchable outlet. When your PC wakes from sleep, it will draw more power, turning on the switchable outlet, and your monitor comes on. When the PC goes to sleep, the "control" outlet will see there is no power draw, and turn off the monitor because its plugged into an auto switchable outlet on the strip.

Note: I've never used that particular brand I linked. There are a bunch of brands that do this same function.

Same here. I think it's a monitor issue as it doesn't occur when one of my monitors is unplugged. I've seen it on two computers now, so I think it's specific to Windows 11 and certain monitors.

Is one of your monitors VGA by any chance?

displayport and HDMI, both fairly new and high end. Not specific to windows though, as it happens on multiple linux distros as well. I'm 95% certain it's a motherboard issue.

Do your monitors have power buttons?
