RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

It's going to be very cold and snow, so I'm hoping to get over my reading slump, watch a movie or two, and call some friends. I want to try to brave a walk every day (haven't been getting many steps), but we'll see how my fortitude is...

My sweetie and I are going to fire up the pellet smoker. We bought a whole bunch of ribs, beef and pork, and they're currently salted, and resting in the fridge (always dry brine your meat.) We'll divide most of it into vacuum seal bags to freeze, so we can enjoy BBQ meals for a few months. A wonderful Valentine day tradition.

Looking into transatlantic crossings by an ocean liner! I've always wanted to travel to another continent by sea. After a cursory glance it isn't that expensive for an inside cabin and the ship that does these crossings is named after a British Queen! Only downside is that she stops at a port in New York so I'd have to go all the way down to New York to get to the port she arrives/stops at, and then back up to Canada on the return trip.

I'm thinking of booking pretty far in advance though, since it's gonna be quite a lot for me since I've never been on a ship before LMAO

Probably go out with boyfriend somewhere, we haven't figured out what. Mostly do a bit of cleaning, and bake some bread. Our kid will be staying with us this weekend, often his grandparents offer to take him for the weekend, so probably have him help clean or at least sort his Lego setup.

  • Go out for my (long) daily walks.

Concocting a magnificent feast for some very dear friends tomorrow night. Hopefully, the weather cooperates and I can do steaks on the grill. Kind of nervous because I want it to go well and the food to be delicious. Otherwise reading and writing, probably some lemmy, and whatever else I want!

It's going to be a busy retail weekend for me and my spouse with so much going on in the area, to bring the locals and tourists out:

  • St Valentines today
  • Chinese New Year's Parade on Saturday
  • NBA All-Star weekend in SF, with the actual games on Sunday
  • President's Day holiday on Monday

Got a socialist conference tomorrow and an anarchist meet up Sunday.

Also seeing my brother tomorrow at the conference which I baked bread for so looking forward to hearing what he thinks of it.

My mother broke up with her partner so dealing with that fallout too which I'm anxious about.

That is a fairly busy weekend! How did you hear about those events?

I'm a socialist party member and I attend demos where i have met anarchists so now the two groups keep me fairly busy.

I’ll be back at work today and over the weekend so mainly going to and from work. In my spare time I will play through re4, which I briefly played when it first released at a friends house. I love the setting and the graphics are great. I think it’s the folk horror vibes that the village gives me that keeps me interested in it. It’s been in my library for a while but just recently watched nosferatu(2024) and it’s reminded me to play it.

Valentines weekend! Today I work, but Friday is my actual Friday so I have all weekend with my beloved. This year he has planned something for us, so I am not sure yet what we will be doing. :)
