Gotta hand it to Trump here. I expected his comments to eventually undo the fragile peace that the Biden administration negotiated in its twilight days, but three weeks is impressively fast.

Are we doing revisionist history now? Without Trump the ceasefire wouldn’t have happened, Biden made it clear that he wouldn’t force Israel to agree with it. And Israel would never agree with it on itself if Trump didn’t force them.

Jonathan Panikoff, director of the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council, said Biden deserves praise for continuing to push the talks despite repeated failures. But Trump’s threats to Hamas and his efforts through Witkoff to “cajole” Netanyahu deserve credit as well, he said.

“The ironic reality is that at a time of heightened partisanship even over foreign policy, the deal represents how much more powerful and influential U.S. foreign policy can be when it’s bipartisan,” he said. “Both the outgoing and incoming administration deserve credit for this deal and it would’ve been far less likely to happen without both pushing for it.”

The article goes on to explain that the importance of Trump's guy was that he simply showed up, despite not contributing much of anything, which signified that Biden's deal would contribute under Trump.

It also notably mentions that Biden's plan was for the US to "govern" Gaza during reconstruction, which sounds a lot like what Trump is trying to say when he opens his moron mouth talking about the US "taking" Gaza.

I completely agree, that the negotiations and deal happened under the Biden administration’s leadership.

The question is why was this ceasefire deal reached, only days before Trump took office? I suspect it played a role. Trump‘s people had been in contact with the Israeli government before the transition of power. That said diplomatic processes are notoriously opaque.

Trump directly or indirectly communicated with Netanyahu to first promote this ceasefire, not questioning Israel spendings, providing a wider variety of weapons and now this. Waaay before that it's been claimed by some media that Gasa is set to become one large real estate development project run by israelis once palestinians get deported and their houses brought down. I am sure it all was on paper before Trump started phase one for how he'd look slapping dems with it and then he and his friends would join the grift, maybe open another casino.

Bibi gifted him a golden pager. Ceasefire wasn't a compromise involving Palestine in any way. It was a deal between two of them.

Biden was never willing to put any pressure on Israel. With the US holding all the cards since they’re the primary funders of Israel’s war efforts, Biden had every opportunity to force a ceasefire before Trump did.

The idea that Trump had any power over Biden while Biden could just decide to stop sending weapons is extremely naive. It’s an attempt to dismiss democrat’s complicity in the genocide on the Palestinian people. We should never forget that both the democrats and the republicans are fully supportive of this horrific genocide.

Ok, so where are people finding out about local protests? They keep happening and I don't know about them because I'm not on any social sites beyond Lemmy. I'm not gonna create a FB account or whatever else, so how can I tap into my local protest movement? I occasionally see a flyer. I can't rely on that for this (probably) imminent movement.

You kind of did though, ~75% of voters did not vote for Trump, so you overwhelmingly agreed on that. Of course in elections you don't vote **against ** anything, you can only vote **for ** something. The question is why don't Americans have something to vote for, like a platform of affordable eggs and not supporting genocide, is beyond me.
