Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)

(This list may get expanded when necessary.)

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].

The accused told the court that after suffering a number of miscarriages and failed fertility treatment, they hatched a plan to kidnap a newborn girl and pass her off as their daughter.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the couple have a total of four children, including one son together. The 45-year-old woman and her 43-year-old husband are from Sandhausen, near Heidelberg.

These sick fucks already had more than enough kids and still did this. I can't express my level of disgust at these two with text. Thank fuck for the following:

the pair are unlikely to be released even after 15 years in prison

Rot in prison, separated from each other. It wasn't even on a whim but actually planned with several steps that I will not write here in case someone doesn't want to ruin their day.

Honestly, I feel bad for all the kids involved. Can you imagine their kids growing up knowing that they weren't enough to the point where their parents would murder for another? They were probably viewed as commodities. And that poor little girl. Her family did all this to get her a safer, more stable life, and now she's worse off for it. The whole situation is disturbing. I wonder what is wrong with these people.

[โ€“] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago

Me too. I can't imagine the horror learning what your parents did as well as the horror of the little girl learning later what happened to her mother and grandmother.

Additionally: The article says that the sick couple met the two Ukrainians by joining a group to help refugees. This shows once again how vulnerable refugees are. They seek help, don't often have a choice, and must trust the people helping them.

Also, I assume Germany has adoption services, so why can't they use that? Something tells me that these people might be far-right breeders.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

That, or in general crazy and deemed not-fit for adoption.

I don't know about Germany but in many countries adoption is ridiculously hard even if you are generally a good person and have your life in order.

But yeah could also be that adoption services were like yeah nah you guys are far-right/crazy or (like the article suggests) they wanted to pass the girl as their own and tell everyone they made her themselves.

Likely deemed too old for adopting a baby.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

You cant adopt after 40, at least that's what I heard from friends who tried.

Gotta say, 7 days from murder to jail and then a year to be sentenced is pretty fast. Good work from the cops and court.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Gotta say though inviting two people to somewhere and then murdering them, plus having the baby with them, but not having contacted the police...

This has to be one of the most stupid murder plots in recent history. Of course police would show up to the location of the last people the victims met before being murdered.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I suppose because they were refugees they trusted the couple who had been helping them. But yeah it wasn't a complicated plot.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I mean, without any suspicions, police will ask everyone who recently saw the victim of a violent crime like this. Also the baby must have been registered at birth, so police knew there is a baby missing. At this point it is like a two peace puzzle.

Unfortunately it is not the only dumb murder plot i have read about in the news over time. I remember one case form like a decade ago, where some guy and his mother tried an insurance fraud with murdering the girlfriend/wive of the guy. So the murderers made multiple life insurance contracts with different agencies and murdered her a few months later.

If these kind of people had 5 brain cells more, they might see how retarded their plans are and not murder someone over it.

I wouldn't underestimate bad cops from messing up 2 piece puzzle cases. It becomes especially apparent when you read stories of serial killers who got caught 10, 20 years later of how common it is for cops to fail to investigate simple cases. Some people do get away with dumb plots.

Translated and summarized "Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung":

The man had a daughter, the woman 2 sons from a previous marriages. They had 1 son together, then the woman got herself sterilized. But she changed her mind, reversed the sterilization and suffered miscarriages.

They speculate she didn't want any more sons, but then fixated on having a daughter.

1 of the miscarriages traumatised the man, who also had a substance addiction.

[โ€“] Tudsamfa 8 points 1 week ago

The woman is a Kazakh immigrant, there is substance abuse, sterilization and patchwork families involved... right wingers will ride this to hell and back before they accept that getting people like this into therapy is the cheapest way to prevent such cases.
