Cool. Now do Meta and Twitter.

Welcome to America, where you are free to fuck off and die. Here's your bill.

Tick tock was a bioweapon.

Poor use of this meme template. The last sentence is not even a question!

Are you saying next are going to be Facebook, Twitter and maybe Fox? Dont give me hope...

I'd like tiktok to fully disappear but not for the reasons governments want it to. I just miss YouTube haikus and memes without music always playing.

Remember Vine? I miss Vine.

I didn't use it explicitly but the memes that filtered out of it into other platforms were great. Tiktok and it's initial music focus ruined short form video memes in my opinion

And the text-to-speech voiceovers. I don’t know why I detest those so much, but for some reason it just sets my teeth on edge. Like nails on a chalkboard.

Yeah it's so impersonal, gives me the ick

By "censorship", they meant not being able to scream the N-word at black people.

[–] andrewth09 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Nah. You can still do that on X (formally Twitter)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And very soon facebook as well...

[–] ZILtoid1991 7 points 3 days ago

You can already say other anti-black slurs on Facebook.

TikTok has literally nothing to do with informing tho... it's literally the opposite.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

All news agencies in my country have a tik tok account and regularly use it to publish exactly the same news as they do on their newspapers or on TV. I don't see how watching that news on tik tok is any different that turning on the TV and watching it there.

Then you haven’t used it. The Reddit stream of 100% hate towards TikTok without understanding it is a very bad take. It provided a ton of momentum in recent US social movements.

I dunno... I was informed a lot on TikTok. Like, 2020-2022 I had a whole lot of "I was X years old when I learned this..." thanks to Black and Brown creators who got a voice on TikTok that was lacking anywhere else.

Bad take. We're in the modern world of information warfare: expecting every citizen to be immune to psychological trickery from a nation spending tens of billions to research and test ways to trick them is unrealistic and unreasonable. There's people with PhDs in human psychology spending their entire time and untold amounts of compute power trying to stoke the flames of division and push misinformation and you think we should allow it?

Trying to scrub all properganda from our lives is also impossible. Better to get a balanced media diet from a variety of sources.

[–] firadin 1 points 1 day ago

That's hard when people smarter than you are being paid billions to study and test exactly how to keep you addicted to their media platform. And if that doesn't work, they'll just buy your preferred media platform and devolve it themselves.

But enough about the US intelligence-industrial complex.
