I've tried to shy away from the news since the election. This is my first hearing of these fires. Thank you.

You and me both. It's far too depressing for me to watch.

Fires in January?

What an amazing year 2025 is turning out to be.

Actually it's a dry season here, so more likely than you'd think. LA isn't exactly known for its rain, so instead we just get dryness in winter (unless we're lucky).

The wildfire season around LA is normally May/June to October.

It is not actually currently a 'dry season'.

It is actually right now, in January, the 'wet season'.

What's gone wrong is that there has been about a decade of persistent general drought, there's been a near complete lack of rainfall in the current wet season, and the Santa Anna winds have been particularly strong.

... It is absolutely not the dry season in LA right now, by historical standards.

The climate has rather abruptly and rapidly changed, such that wildfire season is now effectively year round.

Oh right, I think I'm think Santa Ana winds = dryness and heat, but now that I think of it thats usually October/November. We've had dry Januraries before, but I'm used to it only raining maybe 7-14 days a year, usually at that peak you show.

Suffice to say if you live in climate changed LA, 3/4 of the year is dry.

Don't worry. I saw Steve Guttenberg on TV. He is on it.

Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?

I'll never understand why people continue to live and stay in disaster prone areas. You couldn't pay me to live in California.
