Here's an article on it for anyone who prefers reading:

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/01/lenovo-legion-go-s-with-valves-steamos-is-official-expected-to-launch-in-may/

The windows version will be available this month for $730, with other versions (including a $600 version) coming in May. The SteamOS version is coming in May for $500. I'm guessing the $600 windows version and $500 SteamOS version are basically the same hardware specs.

That can't be the case, can it? $100 for windows, which realistically might actually run many games worse is wild lol.

[–] newthrowaway20 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That sounds pretty in line with licensing costs for windows

$499.99 SteamOS version with 16GB / 512GB, a $599.99 Windows version with 16GB / 1TB

Looks like you get an extra 500gb with the base windows version for some reason. IDK what the deal is with that?

Need more storage for the Windows bloat.

Need more storage for windows bloat...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I'm thinking it's for the Windows bloat... Gotta have more storage for it.

Windows doesn't cost $100 for OEMs, it's basically negligible in high volumes like Lenovo.

Windows charges different license fees depending on how powerful a device is. Gaming hardware will have a more expensive license fee than a lower power device.

Honestly when you have devices like the steam deck targeting $400 starting price, paying up to $100 for a windows key is pretty significant.

Well it looks like the price difference also comes with a bigger hard drive, so that helps soften that blow a bit. But TIL, I wasn't aware of variable pricing based on device performance.

Great! Love it.

I hope for their sake their other Legion products are better than the Legion Dual phone I have, because it constantly reboots for no reason, has no way to remove bloatware, and has no control for when or if the fans turn on, they seemingly turn on for no reason, even when the device is not in use.

I wonder if Lenovo gets a revenue share when they sell a game on the device. This could also explain the $100 price difference as the they are counting on the additional income. Are there any leaks / rumors on this?
