Summary

A study by researchers from George Washington University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the University of Michigan found a sharp rise in permanent contraception among young adults after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Tubal sterilizations rose 70%, and vasectomies increased 95% in states likely to ban abortion, particularly among those aged 19-26.

Concerns about losing reproductive autonomy and access to abortion or birth control drove this surge.

The findings highlight heightened fears post-Roe and reproductive decision-making among young adults.

I'm trying to get a hysterectomy since birth control might be next. I have endometriosis and without my birth control, I'd just be constantly bleeding and in pain so bad it's literally blinding. I go for my hysterectomy consult in the 17th and I hope we can make it work with insurance. My doctor is very open to it, and is one of the rare ones will do elective tube tying with no questions asked.

I have an amazing obgyn and she tied my tubes, no questions asked, when I was 26, right after the first time Trump got elected.

Yup. Two of my clients are in the process of obtaining sterilization because they are terrified it will no longer be an option under Trump. And we live in CO, where abortion rights are present.
