An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine or advice forum.
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions, identify objects or get advice. We accept very few questions, and they must be over topics much more difficult than what is easily discoverable with a search. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. Not hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

8. All polls must have an "Africa, by Toto" option. Why? Because we hear the drums echoing tonight.

Does bi-monthly mean twice a month or every other month?

It's supposed to be -

semi-monthly means twice a month
(semi-circle = half a circle = half a month)

and

bi-monthly is every other month
(bicentennial = 2 centuries = 2 months)

But the terms have been so commonly conflated that dictionaries and style guides reference both definitions (especially for "bi-")

I'm bi every month of the year.

Wait you’re supposed to do that bimonthly? I’ve been doing it like… uhhh every six months-ish

It depends on the quality and rating of the filter, as well as how dusty/dirty your house is; having pets with fur doesn’t help either.

Well, we have a furnace that takes those big 4inch wide filters in replacement of an old electrostatic filter, and it tends to over heat and shut off when the weather gets real cold so now I’m wondering if the problem is I’m not replacing the filter enough. Them things are expensive though.

A dirty filter (or a too high rating) can restrict air flow, which can and will cause the unit to work harder and shorten its life. It might be worth the investment in a new filter and see how your unit responds. You may even want to snake the ducts and make sure they are clean and not clogged.

The 4 inch filters can last up to 6 months, but may need as frequent as every 4 months based on the individual house.

Mine is about every 20 days, but I have one large shaggy dog and two large short hair dogs that all shed profusely. Before, I could go about twice that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Shoot, I was supposed do mine on the first. Thanks for reminding me.

I was gonna do that this weekend. got some cold weather coming in.

Bought a radon gauge (water column tool that indicates pressure differentials) to determine when my filter needs to be replaced. Plan on seeing differential vs used and identifying a threshold. Common in commercial applications.

I'll go ahead and toast you on this one.

Is that bimonthly: twice a month, or bimonthly: once every two months?

[–] slazer2au 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Every other month right?

Because we use fortnightly for every 2 weeks.

[–] rtxn 1 points 3 weeks ago

Bi-somethingly is once every two somethings, semi-somethingly is once every half something.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Both!  Bimonthly can refer to something happening “every two months” or “twice a month.” Yep, bimonthly has, fittingly enough, two meanings."
