Biren, InnoSilicon, and Moore Threads could all use an ISA developed by Imagination Technology.

One of the biggest transfers of wealth of our time is the export of technology overseas to places that don’t care about IP.

With that said, I’m more concerned about the upward transfer of wealth than IP these days, but nevertheless it’s remarkable.

One of the biggest transfers of wealth of our time is the export of technology overseas to places that don’t care about IP.

This has happened before in history, except "overseas" was the Atlantic (instead of the Pacific) and the IP thief was the early American colonies (later named the USA) the the victims were the nations of Europe. This was before the Berne Convention was established in 1886 which was the first modern legal establishment of copyright.

Interesting! I haven’t thought about that time period as another transfer of knowledge.

I think the overseas transfer of IP is part of the upwards transfer of wealth. I bet that for every design PRC stole through espionage, the western owner class sold them 10 along with the factory designs and processes. All of which contributes to the upwards wealth transfer, since these designs are rarely created solely by the company owners or at all.

IPs are meant to be shared, that's why v6 got rid of NAT

Sounds like Apple fucked over Imagination Technology by poaching their key employees and executives. Apple even opened a new office for chip development next to theirs.

The company was then doing poorly and got bought out by a Chinese company controlled by the Chinese government.

Pretty sad demise for the company. I remember working with their GPUs in the early 2010s.

They're not dead. Not yet. I think the next 6 months will be interesting for them.

The current batch of stories seems to be coming from disclosures made during a tribunal case over the unfair dismissal of the CEO at the time. I'l think there's a lot of pearl clutching going on in the reporting here. Their IP just isn't on the same scale as companies like Nvidia and AMD so I don't know how they could possibly be much dirty laundry here.

They're not such a big threat if they still have to get to AGP stage..
