I decided to give this a try. I joined Mastodon a few months ago due to Twitter's fiascos, and I'm having dΓ©jΓ  vu. Let's see if Lemmy can reach critical mass!

Ahoy, fellow Reddit refugee. I was super sad to see that Apollo is shutting down on 30 June. It’s the end of an internet era. Feels bad, man.

It's fun here.

I also joined Mastodon due to Twitter not being good anymore. I also have dèjÑ vu.

Fun fact, both lemmy and mastodon users can interact with one another.

That's pretty neat, how does that work?

It seems you can use your mastodon account to interact with lemmy but you have to do it from a mastodon server.

Lemmy communities are represented as users when interacting from a mastodon server. For example, to access the tchnology community on beehaw.orh you would:

  • Go to your mastodon instance of choice

  • Search for a user called @[email protected]

  • View their feed, subscribe, reply, like, whatever.

Any replys you make to a post on mastodon will also show up as comments on Lemmy servers.

I copied most of this post verbatium from /u/WonderfulEstimate176 on Reddit. I didn't want to link back to Reddit as it's better for others if you can see the post here instead.-----

FYI this didn't work for me, but if I searched instead for [[email protected]](/c/[email protected]), that worked. In fact typing it just now gave me an autocorrect dropdown so that must be the right syntax.

I saw the post on reddit too... when I searched lemmy.ml for @[email protected] this post came up instead. πŸ˜‚

I'm on Beehaw but welcome to the party!

Seems good that, even if there's a little bit of "competition" about "best" community, as long as they're using the same software network, there's plenty of opportunity for cross-posting. Could be that one will win out, but might not.

Yeah that's what I really like about it. I also like that if a community on a particular instance becomes problematic somebody else can make the equivalent community on another instance no problem. Makes it easier I feel to not be held hostage by hostile, power trippy mods

I hope that there will be less exclusive vibes here than mastodon. I want everyone to find their communities here as long as they're nice

I agree. It's dΓ©jΓ  vu all over again.

Hey and welcome! Using Mlem for iOS cuz I detest browsers. Trying to convince my friends on Reddit to join. This place is much better!

Hullo. Just joined and checking out Jerboa since Sync is going down on June 30th

[–] calhoon2005 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Boo... Sync has been my go-to for ten years...

[–] Devgard 2 points 1 year ago

same, just not as long (at least 2-3 years!)

[–] Gullevek 1 points 1 year ago

Same here, same here.
