A community for Cartographers with nothing left to lose.

Rules:

Don't be awful Lemmy Guidelines Still Apply.

No direct upload images This is hosted on Lemm.ee- to post images, you must use an image upload service like Imgur to post maps.

We are agents of chaos I've created this to be the alternative to the community I used to manage on the website that shalt not be named "mapporncirclejerk"

Live and let die Meme trends happen, so please don't message mods asking to take down maps that are repetitive to a bit.

Reposts Vs. Covers Not all reposts are evil- if someone posts something that has been done years ago, it serves to bring old memes to the new users. I call these meme covers. However it can be done in excess which makes it a repost and spam. Mods will determine if a post is a cover or a repost.

No impersonating mods I can't believe I had to make this rule.

No harassing mods on an appeal We can talk it out, and we will be acting in good faith when making decisions. If you disagree with a removal, you are free to message for clarification or to appeal by giving some added context.

Bans Bans will be set to a maximum of 365 days for humans, and a minimum of 365 years for bots. I believe people can change, so if you are banned for good reason, do know that it is not permanent, it is just a way to say "take time to grow and come back when you are ready".

Is this a contiguous connection between claimed territories (e.g. Antarctica) and islands part of the EU (e.g. Reunion's DOM, and French Polynesia's COM)?

Interesting, but as a seafarer kind of silly as the EEZ and 12 mile limits don't create any sort of contiguous existence.

The freedom of navigation and international waters make for some interesting viewing though.

That use of blue tho. I thought it was ocean currents for a bit.

Oops, UK shouldn't be in there 😉

Look here gammon, we only left the EU. We didn't move the Island to a different continent.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

Have you tried?

[–] philthi 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Well yeah, but if this is the continent why the long legs to signify ownership? This justifiably confused me into thinking this was a political graphic incorrectly labeled as Europe instead of EU.

So I suppose this graphic really isn't showing anything at all, as it's neither politically or geographically accurate.

I think it's showing europe, and all the parts of the world countries from that continent still hold claim to. But weirdly with the sea between them and Europe also marked.

The long legs are mostly French territories

Neither should Russia and a whole other things by that measure

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or the whole of Russia and Turkey.

Guys, Europe is a continent, based on a tectonic plate or some shit, which partially includes Russia and Turkey.
But this graph is a mess because it somehow combines aspects of both geography and political affiliation.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

It contains the geographical definition of the continent, and then it stops making sense. French Guyana is included because it's part of France. But Siberia isn't, despite being part of Russia.
And parts of Antarctica are included, despite not being part of any country at all.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 weeks ago

Actually based on the logic used here, whole Russia should have been marked.

The Russia west of Urals is in Europe, east of Urals is Asia.

If you're gonna include fucking parts of Antarctica because some eurocunts have claimed area there, surely the Asian side of Russia should be too

Bless France

  • Chose one OP: or just paint continental Europe or land that belongs to European countries.

  • OP: Yes (does neither of both).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Why isn't Russia in its entirety marked as blue though?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

because half (or most) of russia is in asia

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

Most of Denmark is in North America

[–] Blum0108 6 points 1 month ago

Antarctica isn't in Europe either

[–] FelixCress 0 points 3 weeks ago

I would say it shouldn't be marked at all.

Russia is not a country, it is a state of mind.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fuck it, turkey is Europe just because it's more aesthetically pleasing

[–] SirHery 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah half of turkey is continental Europe. But i get what you are saying because he includes enclaves it should only be EU countries.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

You should put the whole of Russia. Siberia, Kamchatka etc were colonised by europeans (Russians) and their polulations were replaced with ethnic slavs.
