Glad to see sanity win out on this one. It would have created a food monopoly on a lot of areas.

It was bad enough when Safeway and Albertson's merged. There were major shenanigans afoot when that happened.

In order to get approval for THAT deal, Albertson's had agreed to sell off some stores to Haggen.

That resulted in a $1B lawsuit.

Good news, five companies globally own all of the food you will likely find to eat. (Us/EU/former and current colonies of those two), unless you're growing your own heirloom varietals.
