Wife just got me a soda maker. We were sipping and chatting idly about how it's so weird that our little town doesn't offer recycling on our street. The bubbles were so strong that right on cue I was able to burp-scream WUD THE FUHHHHGHHKK about it

Seriously, what's with that

it's so weird that our little town doesn't offer recycling on our street.

A lot of places don't even recycle the recycling. The idea of recycling is great but in practice it's pretty much a shit show. Not enough places doing it, not enough facilities to handle the different materials, not enough money in it to motivate corporations to do better.

Sad but true. Best thing I can do is minimize plastic, hence the gadget

Yup! Recognizing the shortcomings can definitely help with future decision making about purchases. It would be nice to see a more urgent stance taken on recycling though.

...I pay for recycling, and my city has a recycling center. I hope they're actually recycling the stuff I send to them. 😩 I'm mostly talking about the metal and glass. That's the good stuff right there.

Honestly it would be better if we stopped trying to recycle plastic and just focused on metal, cardboard, paper, and maybe glass.

It's too late now I suppose for recommendations, but I really like my DrinkMate. Unlike SodaStream you can carbonate any liquid not just water. Comes out better if you premix the concentrate and carbonate all together. Lose too much carbonation otherwise. It's also not a company that directly participates in genocide 👀 so that's definitely better too.

Whatever you got I highly recommend getting a larger, standard tank and adapter. The prices these companies charge for CO2 is absolutely insane. Find a local supplier, dry ice can also work.

That's the one we went with. Thanks for the nudge about standard tanks, I actually was considering getting a corny keg down the road just for my brewing hobby anyway. Need to find a local supplier though.

Check out Big Clive. He’ll put anything through a SodaStream. The below link is Fireball, but he’s done a dozen or more different experiments with it and not all work. He’s a neat guy though.

Yeah he's great, though I more watch his electronics stuff.

These videos illustrate the problem with that brand. Unremovable carbonator, hard to control pressure release. Drinkmate has a removable, cleanable head and fine control for pressure release so fizz over isn't an issue.

Soda makers are great

I'd recommend Sparkel to anyone interested: can carbonate anything and uses powders for the process instead of canisters. Get citric acid and baking.... Soda? And mix them in equal parts, boom,.ezpz

Haven't heard of that one, sounds cool.
