5.6% of congress was born before 1945. That's fucking insane. I mean I realize Biden was too, but that just makes it worse. The choices in terms of age are 80-year-old Biden or 77-year-old Trump.

And it's not going to change until younger voters start showing up on election day.
They show up reliably on election day...
They need to show up in the primaries.
They don't show on election day either. They have it within their grasp to change everything. https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/voter-turnout-rate-by-age-usa
Largest gain across any age group and you're missing the last presidential election...
Still the lowest percentage. I hope they keep making gains!
Zoomers vote so don't blame them.
I'm not blaming as much as pointing out that the people most affected are the least likely to vote. They'd rather complain about "boomers" on social media
Which is one reason why we can't get anything meaningful passed to actually help Millennials and Zoomers.
These articles are always a bit misleading, while still demonstrating a decent point.
The minimum age to be a representative is 25 years old. Minimum age for the senate is 30 years. 25 years prior to the most recent congress was seated (Jan 2023) was 1998. This means that out of all gen Z, only the first 1 year is even eligible. If the distribution of gen Z births is roughly equal that means out of that 20%, only 1/15th (1.4% of the total pop) are even eligible for the House and absolutely 0% are eligible for the senate.
I get what they're saying, especially with the discrepancy being this significant but they really need to do some age adjustment first.
That's the point though? Why would Gen Z make up any significant portion of the legislature if they aren't old enough and mature enough to lead yet. The same measure should also be added to the upper end and cap the age to retirement.
No wonder almost every one of them's so dumb/out-of-touch/afraid of lots of things and trigger-happily pass laws then don't check its ramifications or consequences in society
Is this a suprise? The general (incorrect) consensus is that the older you are, the wiser you are. Almost all of Gen Z isn't old enough to participate, and millenials are just reaching an age where they start to get taken seriously by the public. Honestly, you shouldn't want 20 or 30 year olds running the country or even a city.
There should absolutely be age limits, but the problem isn't that 60 gear olds are in charge, it's that boomers kinda suck.
