Men's Liberation

This community is first and foremost a feminist community for men and masc people, but it is also a place to talk about men’s issues with a particular focus on intersectionality.

Rules

Everybody is welcome, but this is primarily a space for men and masc people

Non-masculine perspectives are incredibly important in making sure that the lived experiences of others are present in discussions on masculinity, but please remember that this is a space to discuss issues pertaining to men and masc individuals. Be kind, open-minded, and take care that you aren't talking over men expressing their own lived experiences.

Be productive

Be proactive in forming a productive discussion. Constructive criticism of our community is fine, but if you mainly criticize feminism or other people's efforts to solve gender issues, your post/comment will be removed.

Keep the following guidelines in mind when posting:

  • Build upon the OP
  • Discuss concepts rather than semantics
  • No low effort comments
  • No personal attacks

Assume good faith

Do not call other submitters' personal experiences into question.

No bigotry

Slurs, hate speech, and negative stereotyping towards marginalized groups will not be tolerated.

No brigading

Do not participate if you have been linked to this discussion from elsewhere. Similarly, links to elsewhere on the threadiverse must promote constructive discussion of men’s issues.

I came here from another post.

The comments made me think, what is the purpose of this space?

I personally think the best thing we could do is start to invent a new masculinity that actually works for us and the world.

What is everyone else here for?

I think one of the most important things is discussion on existing gender theory. I feel like because men feel generally disenfranchised from academic gender spaces they have a tendency to reinvent the wheel. I think it is very important to compile resources to prevent this and long term may be useful to put together a wiki. Another thing that I would love to see here is acknowledgement that Men's Liberation as a movement is actually a lot older than modern MRA type movements. That's not to say that the sentiments encompassed by either are necessarily new but I don't think Men's Liberation needs to do so much bending over backwards to say that they are like MRA but not toxic.

I'm honestly here to lurk, but I know that communities like this live and die by user content and not just articles. I really hope it picks up because this is a great space

Posting builds subscriber base! Particularly crossposting using the dedicated lemmy feature. Don't knock it. Subscribers have almost tripled since I started posting.

On this platform I can see why a cross post bot would be effective - lots of people including myself look at the all feed as the main way to find new communities because search is...eh and there's a lot of people squatting on names and not posting

I wouldn't have found this community if you hadn't advertised, and that's awesome! I've already read through some of your posts and they're absolutely enlightening. I'm just hoping others (myself included) start posting more questions, personal observations, and discussion posts as well.
