TFW you support Israel so much that you start treating Palestinian children just like they do.

Um, whilst I agree that the powers that be are definitely anti-palestine, this is just a video of cops chasing a kid who happens to be holding a palestine flag.

Given that other people are also holding flags and not being chased, I'm guessing they're not chasing him just because he's holding the flag.

This is pretty disingenuous social media reporting.

Edit: The novaramedia link up in the thread does seem to show excessive police action against peaceful protest. I don't think the video shows this, but it could be related.

I don't understand people down voting this. I'm with you - I am pro-Palestine, condemn the war crimes being committed by Israel, and recognize the pro-Israel political bias in several western countries.

With that said, this video provides 0 information on what is happening and why. I understand the bad optics of the video with multiple cops chasing a small child & him being placed in a van, but there is no indication as to why this was happening. The cops seemed professional, they were not physical with the child or protesters chucking stuff at them.

If you try to find any information about what happened in English - all you can find are middle eastern based news sites pushing a backlash narrative, without any evidence of backlash outside YouTube comments, Reddit & now here.

There is definitely an issue with pro-Israel bias in Germany because of their history, there is definitely an anti-Muslim sentiment among the right leaning population in Germany (as in many other European countries due to the perception and challenges of immigration.) But with that said - there is no reason to think the police are doing anything wrong here without some context.

This is how fascism is successful, because liberals will lie for a lie, but they won’t lie for the truth.

Hello? This is the internet. Please don’t complicate things with your thinking and logic. /s

[–] hperrin 38 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In the US they would’ve tased him.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Or shot him as well as 2 bystanders and another cop, and then claimed he had a knife, but that it was subsequently stolen.

And thrown a flashbang into a nearby stroller with a sleeping baby inside.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 months ago (5 children)

This video doesn't even show why the child is getting chased.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

According to the police the kid was being chased and secured for his own safety because he was unsupervised at the event. He was returned to the father.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (4 children)

Well, that's... unexpectedly reasonable.

EDIT: Unexpectedly reasonable for the cops to be even remotely altruistic. Unfortunately in this day and age, I was fully expecting the cops to just curbstomp the poor kid.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How is this reasonable, they're traumatizing the kid why exactly? 10 year olds are out on their own all the time in Germany and aren't being chased by police.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

they're traumatizing the kid

Ehh dunno about that

10 year olds are out on their own all the time in Germany

At this sort of events? I'd hope not

[–] njm1314 0 points 2 months ago

At protests? Those are horribly traumatic events for a child to be at?

[–] Taalnazi 5 points 2 months ago

How is that reasonable? If you're protesting you shouldn't have to fear being chased by the police.

[–] njm1314 2 points 2 months ago

It's reasonable? 10 year olds are just animals that need to be caged at all times? Since when can a 10 year old not exist in public?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

How dare you ruin this perfect moment of outrage with reason.

[–] dborba 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Do you have a source? I couldn't find anything about the situation outside of middle eastern news sites talking about Germany being in the wrong side of history & backlash because of the video.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Source is the police, here is the Link to the news ticker

Here's the relevant part as a screenshot:

Gegen 18 Uhr wurden Einsatzkräfte auf einen Jungen aufmerksam, der zuvor offenbar ohne Begleitung an der Versammlung teilgenommen hatte. Aufgrund der noch andauernden polizeilichen Maßnahmen im Nachgang der Versammlung wurde der Elfjährige zu seinem eigenen Schutz in Obhut genommen. Sein Vater wurde benachrichtigt, der ihn circa 90 Minuten später abholte.

Translated by me:

At about 6:00 PM officers noticed a boy attending the event clearly unsupervised. Because of police activity after the event the 11-year-old was taken into police protection. His father was notified and he took the boy with him after 90 minutes.

[–] Taalnazi 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's what the police says.

What do the people themselves say?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago

In the video you can hear them yelling "Hey! Release the kid!" and stuff like that. They also call the police "murderers" for protecting the child against the thrown stuff, so I don't really take them seriously.

I haven't found any statement from the father, or someone adjacent to them, so I don't know what they have to say about this. Maybe someone can find something.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In the western country where I live, riot cops don't chase kids like that.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

Now I'm torn between:

A) riot cops ignore kid

B) riot cops fire 40mm "non-leathal" whatever at kid, killing them instantly

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah that 10 year old had it coming.

[–] sazey 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That'll teach him to fly illegal flags, hope he gets hard labour otherwise society is doomed.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

This is still Western Europe, we don’t do hard labor, Guantanamo will do. For the kid‘s safety, you know.

Fr tho the police issued a statement and they said the kid didn’t do anything wrong and they took him into custody for his own good. Because of course a Palestine isn’t illegal, even if the cops hate it. Pretty crazy way of spinning the illegal arrest of a 10 year old who clearly didn’t look like he wanted the police to take him with them.

[–] Maggoty 1 points 2 months ago

He's ten, flip him the bird and watch him tire himself out.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

yeah, maybe „he hit a police women with the pole“ (was in the youtube comments) Dont know how illegal it is to have a palestinian flag with you.

[–] Maggoty 11 points 2 months ago

If the Palestinian flag is illegal then all the more reason to fly it. They just want to live free and unoppressed.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is it true that a lot of people arrested under germany's antisemitic speech laws are jewish (mostly for supporting palestine)? I saw this somewhere recently but can't find anything now.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

And arresting him too, by the looks of it.

[–] DNU -1 points 2 months ago

clickbait as always. Al Jazeeras also going crazy with their titles. Whenever anything happens its "Western countries Bad", when you do some dd though, most of the time its obv that nothing really happened.
