So were the Scots ahead of their time or behind?
Mostly ahead, in this case! European infantry forces would tend towards pike squares, slowly introducing guns to the formations until the pikes were eventually made redundant by improved guns and bayonets.
The Englishman looks envious.
For clarity, the Scott is on the right, even though the title reverses it.
