This community has kind of been empty since it was created, I'm hoping to change that!
Unlike "other" Portland communities you may have seen "elsewhere", I believe in a "warts and all" approach. You are free to take off your Rose tinted glasses and talk about topics that are dragging our city down.
At the same time, sunset pics, snowmageddon, traffic monster, cones, that's all welcome as well. Let's collectively keep Portland weird!
2024 is going to be an interesting year politically with all the changes to city government, I will attempt to tag political threads with a [Politics] tag and encourage users to do so as well.
Other than the lemmy.world restrictions on spam, copyrighted material, and adult material (USE that NSFW tag!), there's only one real way to get in trouble here:
- Don't attack other users.
It's OK to go after Teargas Ted, it's OK to say Rene Gonzales is a fascist, ACAB, BLM, whatever floats your boat (WEFYB).
It's NOT OK to attack or diminish another user. Feel free to disagree, you can point out the many ways you think they're wrong, just don't start throwing perjoratives AT OTHER USERS.

I'm not saying you should sign up, interview, get the job, and then ghost them. That's NOT what I'm telling you to do.
What stops people from signing up, interviewing, getting the job, and then immediately joining the picket line?
An unyielding deference to the corporate machine might stop someone from doing that, if they were afflicted with such a curse

But id be the absolute worst employee. Like they'd tell me to do something and I'd do bare minimum while also shouting, "Well shit y'all can use a union."
I'm fully employed already in a salary position in a major tech company.
Yeah first day of work they'd find me 2 hours later deep in aisle 12 with a case of beer and open bags of doritos strewn about.
What are they gonna do - fire you? lol
Interviewing candidates takes time, and its a huge pain in the ass if your new hires simply don't show up.
This was my immediate thought too - interview and let them think they have lots of backup scabs then when they call on you, join the strike.
This is why they want TFWs: they can't quit and will do almost anything to avoid being fired because they risk being deported. Modern day slavery.

It's targeted at uneducated people who think they'll be owning the libs and who are only going to work there "temporarily" anyway.
It works more often than you'd think. Let them get the bottom of the barrel and let the business suffer.
