It's the last working day of the week for most of us. What's happening this weekend?

The same as every weekend: drive the children to classes and activities...

I so glad our eldest swapped swimming (9am, other side of town) for tennis (11am, ten minute walk away).

It's my half day at work, half day of hobby gamedev, so I'm excited to get stuck into that. Been learning how to art, which is no simple feat for a programming nerd like myself, but games need both things so here we are!

Tomorrow my other half is off to some family thing, so I get the house to myself. That usually means sitting in blissful silence with no TV or anything, eating macaroni cheese. But occasionally it means a one-woman early 2000s rock dance party so we'll just have to see which way tomorrow goes 😆

oh god i’m so into macaroni cheese at the minute. it’s my go to comfort food. usually with a garlic flatbread if i’m feeling fat.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago

If having garlic bread with macaroni cheese is fat, I don't wanna be skinny.

My company guarantees one, three-day weekend a month and today is our day off! Gonna play some Zelda, maybe putter around on a personal project.

It's honestly a great system for morale. Highly recommend. Most studies show that productivity goes up when you move to a four-day work week, and this is a great way to dip a toe in that water.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago

Oh man something like that would definitely have kept me going at my last job, you'd always have something to look forward to. Enjoy!

My first park run tomorrow! Wish me luck!

[–] Henrik 1 points 1 year ago

Update: park run was cancelled, but the people who didn't get the memo still showed up. Ended up being an unofficial park run - cam second. Great experience and atmosphere. Would highly recommend to give it a try!

I am still in a ridiculous amount of pain, but it doesn't seem like such a big deal now, as I plan to spend the next few days laying in the shade watching the Ashes.

Pay day, and 90% is gone before 11am.

Looking forward to Formula one this weekend, It's going to be strange but hopefully just as good in the community on Lemmy rather than the other place

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

BTW there are at least two F1 sublemmies: [email protected] and [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Going out tonight to have a nice steak at a new Steakhouse in town. Then stroll down the hill to see some live music be played in the venue I got married in.

No child to look after tonight so a nice full night sleep 🤨

Tomorrow hosting two friends and going to make a Beef Wellington for the first time, excited to do that.

[–] Finnbot 3 points 1 year ago

best of luck with the Beef Welly! Let us know how it goes, I'm chomping at the bit to try it but not quite confident enough yet.

[–] TeaHands 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Goddamn I am so jealous of people who live in places where there are things like restaurants and music and friends. You're very lucky, never forget it!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Haha, well it's cultivated over years. I don't think I could live anywhere that didn't have some form of decent restaurant options and people I could occasionally subject to my imitation of good cooking. As for music, I'm not like the headbanging rock live music type, but a casual evening listening to Hans Zimmer? That's a music event for me.

You must have chosen to live out in the sticks if that isn't a little bit of an option?

[–] TeaHands 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, tried bringing my other half into civilization but he got homesick for his middle-of-nowhere upbringing so here we are with bugger all going on. I recently travelled 3 and a half hours each way by bus to go to an hour long comedy show with friends in our nearest city.

Note to self: cheer up it's Friday, save this moan for the next Thursday thread, at least you're near the sea

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Haha. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

I'll steer clear of the nearby coast at this time of year. It's too crowded, too hot, and there's sand everywhere. Mostly I just hate the people.

Wait a minute. You're right! It's Fridddaaaay! Woooooooooo

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You are far braver than I am, I am a pretty decent cook but I have never attempted a beef wellington. Given the weather we are having I would be more likely to portion the beef into steaks and cook them on the BBQ.

Best of luck!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Haha, the weather I hadn't factored in until you just said it. I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm-in-danger.gif

[–] Speckle 4 points 1 year ago

I know it's sunny but I'm going to be watching the new series of Black Mirror!

[–] agreyworld 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Building a garage so will be laying blocks. Takes bloody ages!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah but think of all the excuses to slap them with your palm and say 'yep, that's not going anywhere' and feel smug

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Recuperating from 2 days of masquerading as an extrovert with work colleagues in London by sitting alone in my home office and talking to noone. Might talk to my wife occasionally. Maybe the cats too, but they don't talk back.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Since it’s going to be a few degrees cooler I might be able to leave the house without instant regret. Maybe a picnic is on the cards.

[–] avail 3 points 1 year ago

A totally stacked day at work, then a haircut, now catching up on Black Mirror before starting on the new season.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We live in Edinburgh, where the schools finish at lunchtime, so I have about 3.5 hours of freedom.

And this weekend we're going through to the Play Expo retro games thingy in Glasgow tomorrow! Last one was in 2019, so looking forward to that.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah that sounds fun! We went to the one in Manchester a couple times, and there's a smaller more local one called NERG which is usually a good time. I hope your venue is adequately air conditioned, that's all I'll say!

If you spot a Marble Madness machine give it whirl for me.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Can't beat a bit of Marble Madness. I believe it's in Braehead Arena which is used for Ice Hockey, so hopefully it has a beast of an AC system!

[–] matt 3 points 1 year ago

I'm hoping to finally get on top of my housework and chores this weekend - the weather has been insufferable all week and I haven't had the motivation to do anything in the house and things are piling up.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The usual climbing outdoors but I'm excited to go out for a meal in town with my sister and her partner. Expensive but it always makes me feel good when people come to something I've planned.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Dog needs a bath, so that's Saturday. Boy, do I live an exciting life.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Gotta drop the car off for a service (during rush hour) and pick it up later this afternoon (during rush hour).

#FML

[–] Gradually_Adjusting 2 points 1 year ago

Might try to go swimming. The fiver fest is in town too, so I might do a bunch of random drinking and shopping.

I really need to finally nail down my Fringe plans, too. Can't decide where to stay or how to get there. If not for the 5 year old we'd train and hostel it.

[–] Confuzzeled 2 points 1 year ago

Working nightshift for 6 more nights, going to miss the nice weather this weekend. Not looking forward to trying to sleep during the day with the heat but hey ho, at least I get a week off when I'm done.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago
[–] soapyScooper 2 points 1 year ago

I'm going to the north from London on the train, which confirms what I already know about how ridiculously expensive trains are. It's barely cheaper for two of us to get the train (with a Railcard) than it is to hire a car for the weekend, and no doubt there will be delays.

Looking forward to the slightly cooler weather forecast up there this weekend though!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Doing a meetup tomorrow morning, one of these detective around town things. In the evening, it's my brother in law's birthday so heading down there for jelly and ice cream.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Finally having a barbecue. So of course the forecast has changed to rain.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Probably venture out for a wander along the canal, although sadly a load of fish have died due to low oxygen in the water so that's really upsetting to see. Sunday morning will be F1 quali highlights for the other half, good cross stitch time for me. Got stuff in for DIY McMuffins too.

[–] Nova1 2 points 1 year ago

Hoping the pollen count goes down a touch.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

bitten off more than i can chew walking this afternoon. it's still half an hour back to my car where my water bottle is and i think I've stopped sweating. be smarter than me and carry water!

[–] chaosppe 1 points 1 year ago

I found a new game called thronefall. it's not entirely out yet, but the demo is up. 10/10 will be playing more this weekend.

[–] RamesesKnibs 1 points 1 year ago

Fighting off hay fever, my usual remedies are letting me down and it's a snotty, sneezy, headachey paradise over here

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Off to Arcade Club this weekend with some friends! It's going to be like an oven in there...
