This hits hard. I was unemployed for ten months over the last 3 years. Fuck IPOs, valuations, and mass layoffs with no repercussions.

Can't relate. Was laid off in May, still looking >.>
Been at it about 9 months in earnest (took a few months off because I was really burnt out).
Shit's bad.
Yeah same man. While I've been looking, I've allowed myself to be super picky with the next job, because I was so burnt out and bitter at my last job. Being home with my baby twins has been great.
Watching my bank account steadily drain, and panicking every night about losing our house and being unable to feed them however has not been as great.
Ah, congrats on the baby time at least! Hopefully we get back in the job saddle before too long. Being poor is absolutely a health hazard.
The job market sucks so bad right now. My youngest put in an application to wash dishes part time in the small town we live in and they got 32 applications for it. They hired my kid because my kid did yard work for them a few years back and didn't interview any of the other 31 people.
I remember when I was young everybody had help wanted signs out because you couldn't hire anyone.
Sigh... "Small town and shit job market" This has been an ongoing trend for centuries. It's the major reason for the ongoing trend of urbanization around the world. Labor shortages or oversupply in specific location or fields is constant.
In urban areas, the concentration of people and employers, historically has allowed for a better job market.
The long-term effect of this population means that a high percentage of people living in rural are whiny scared people who are highly resistant to change.
You've met my neighbors? Weird.
But at least they announce how scared they are by saying they're brave to wave a Trump flag....
They carry a gun, in an oversized pickup truck, with racist police "supporting" decals as they drive recklessly around?
Or was that pickup repo'd last week again?
You do know them!
It took me 6 months to get a graveyard shift stocking job in 2020/2021, indeed said there were a ton of applicants to all the positions that I applied for. That was applying across the metro area I live in.
It is kind of wild. Anytime I have to authenticate in the middle of the day it's like I thought I already did this... shit is it happening again?? Oh I guess not - back to productive work mode now toootally not in the least bit tilted 😐
My favorite is when the auth fails and my first thought is that I was laid off
It's the worst.
I worked in the games industry for ~18 years, and the software for ~2. Due to the news of constant layoffs, friends and acquaintances from outside of the industry ask how many times I've been laid off, and this is how the chat goes.
Just another day in 2024.
This is me sometimes, but in a different way. I actually didn't open the laptop for like 20 days and am wondering if they notice I didn't do any work and finally fired me.
(I'm joking obviously)
