Every time I see Turner play now I think of the words "It's a dawg fight out there" lol

[–] ironeaglebird 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Turner didn't have two much to do against Mexico. Mexico's team looked so outplayed, their federation has really sabotaged themselves.

[–] supdil 4 points 1 year ago

He had one or two decent stops, but still looks way too jittery with the ball at his feet.

[–] MHPengwingz 3 points 1 year ago

It actually pains me to watch Mexico at times, you expect them to actually be decent but instead it's really a team that aren't cohesive at all. The federation needs to be overhauled from top to bottom. The fact that they haven't beaten their biggest "rival" in ages in a long time and in important matches too is very damning.

I’ve gaslighted myself to accept Havertz. Here we go?

[–] Roxamir 5 points 1 year ago

I'm still on the fence. Seems like wayyyy too much money.

Quick! Someone make a Welcome to Arsenal | 8k | Despacito Remix Compilation so I can get on the hype train.

Don't let Chelsea fool you, there is a great player in that body, but Chelsea has been a black pit of death for attackers lately. Werner, Lukaku, Sterling, Havertz, Ziyech, Auba, Felix, Mudryk, Cuca (defender I know) are all great players but just haven't been able to show that while at Chelsea.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I don't doubt what you say is true. But he doesn't actually tackle or solve any of our problems. Even if we're bringing him in as Saka cover, his end product has always been vastly inferior.

[–] MHPengwingz 2 points 1 year ago

Same. I believe there's talent but at that price and his development at Chelsea though? I'd be wary.

[–] lemon_meringue_tie 3 points 1 year ago

I don't think Havertz is as bad as he's being made out to be. He has the tools to succeed. Arteta is knows how to bring the best out of under performing players. I mean look at the job he's done with Xhaka.

[–] Eabryt 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At this point I'm willing to let Arteta and Edu cook. Vieira aside, there hasn't really been a bad signing per se. I'm not even ready to call Vieira bad, just less impressed by him than I'd like to be.

I think Fabio still deserves some time. This pre-season will be so important for him. Hopefully it's just a case of it taking time for him to settle into a new country and new league.

I'm a bit worried once the original r/gunners mods take over. Moderating 2 communities on different sites will take a lot. I don't want c/gunners to become neglected.

Hey @[email protected], I completely understand the concerns and to be honest, like I mentioned in the transfer tier list thread - I'm a little nervous as well. I've shared with the /r/gunners mods my concerns that

  • splitting their time between two platforms will be difficult
  • moderating a community of 300k and 300 is quite different. They'll need to be active participants in this community rather than passive enforcers like they are on /r/gunners.

In the end, this time commitment is something the /r/gunners mods need to assess whether they are willing to do for the better of the community. /c/gunners is literally one of the most active communities on Lemmy - and I believe the most active sports community. @[email protected] has been great in encouraging people on Reddit to come here and @[email protected] is also a mod at the Arsenal women Lemmy community. But if this community is to survive in the long run, we'll need a driven mod team who will drive engagement on this platform.

[–] ironeaglebird 6 points 1 year ago

I appreciate you addressing my concerns. I guess it got it in my head with not seeing the other mods being very active here.

/c/gunners has kind of exploded compared to some of the similar communities and I would like the continue on that tread. I am glad to see that the mods are encouraging users to come here and seem to be up to the challenge of moderating two platforms.

The original mods are taking over?

That’s great, thank you for sharing. Hope you’re getting the help you need and deserve.

What's the latest on Caicedo? Is he Chelsea bound?

[–] Roxamir 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Times Sport reported that we withdrew apparently. Tier 3 tho

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Thanks! Gotta say it's hard to imagine us signing 200m+ worth of players between Rice, Caicedo, Havertz, and others. Not surprised if one of them doesn't happen.

[–] Roxamir 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Just posted an update from Romano. Apparently talks are advancing with Chelsea 🤢

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

@Roxamir @DeathWearsANecktie if he wants to go to Chelsea purely for $$ then good riddance; don’t need or want him.

[–] Matt_Sams_314 2 points 1 year ago

Seems a bit weird to buy Havertz which will allow Chelsea to buy Caicedo when it seems (in my opinion) like we could use Caicedo much more than Kai

[–] Gingerrific 3 points 1 year ago

I think we were only going to get one of Rice/Caicedo given their price. Some outgoings would help, but I can't see out net spend getting over 200m for the window (Rice 100, Havertz at 60, I'm not sure who but a backup RB for 15-20and some CM depth for 20-25)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

@DeathWearsANecktie @Roxamir don’t want him if he wants to just to Chelsea for ££

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@DeathWearsANecktie @Roxamir any additional midfielders we want instead of caicedo

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (4 children)

lately losing interest in Arsenal. been supporting since 2007. Never felt like this.

[–] throbbingpens 4 points 1 year ago

That’s okay, it happens sometimes as you grow older. Priorities change and interests change. Sometimes you lose interest in something temporarily as well and it comes back in a while. It’s all good.

[–] Panzer517 3 points 1 year ago

I am curious why? even with life being crazier this is the most engaged that I have felt in my time supporting Arsenal.

[–] lemon_meringue_tie 3 points 1 year ago

May I ask why? Its the opposite for me. I feel like the team has started to become exciting after a long time. I'm even more excited for the near future of the team.

[–] sensiblepuffin 2 points 1 year ago

No issue with that, honestly, things change. Only concern I'd have is if there's nothing taking its place, if that makes sense - are you getting more into other things, or are you just losing interest?
