Wondering if we'll get another format war at some point or if people will just accept streaming and owning nothing
Home Video (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, 4k)
On Reddit we have r/dvdcollection, r/boutiquebluray, r/4kbluray, r/steelbook, r/vhs, etc but let's start simply with a community to cover all the forms of home video collecting.
So, do you feel nostalgic for a format? Are you looking forward to a release? Heard any exciting news? Want to show us your shelves? Then post away.

Accept nothing. Own everything. Sail the high seas.
I don't understand your comment. Is this article suggesting no one will release their films on blu-ray?
Per the article it is saying that they will eventually cease production of them altogether. Sony owns the rights to Blu Ray so any company wanting to put their art onto it is out of luck once they stop making them altogether.
Did a quick search:

Looks like we'll still be fine minus new Columbia Pictures UHD releases.
Looks like you're right I always though Sony was the only patent holder of blu ray
Since I've not heard of a new format coming out I can only assume purchasing will be out the windows. However, that just means they get less of my money. I don't mind renting movies if I'm unsure of the movie, but unless I can own a digital copy I'd never get one. The only reason I have any more is because they came "free" with the disc I purchased.
Interesting move.
I'm still buying DVDs. But once there's no way to actually buy media, that makes it abandonware, for those of us collecting physical media.
I'm sure the sketchy Chinese site that'll start selling me media mega bundles on USB is absolutely licensing that stuff correctly, though.
That’s just about DVD-Rs and BD-Rs. Even if they were stopping production altogether, Sony already gutted their internal capacity and have been relying more on third parties. With all the deals they’ve signed to support other labels/studios, they’re still in this for a while to come.
Portable hard drives are the new physical media.
